Default Question about liquids

I was told to get 64 oz of liquids a day.....my nut also told me that don't drink anything 30 mins prior to or 30 mins after eating anything it is really hard for me to get that amount of fluids I drink but then I feel full I know they say to sip sip sip but my nut said to eat 6 small meals a day and having to wait that hour around them to drink ,makes it is so hard to get the 64 ounces in. Also I am having some pain when I pee and my pee is dark does anyone know what that could be?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

First Off I Had The Same Prob When I Was At Your Stage It Will Get Easier As Time Goes On. Just Try To Do As Much As Posssible. Keep That Bottle In Your Hand At All Times And Take Sip After Sip After Sip.

If You Pee Is Dark That Could Be The Sign Of Dehydration. How Much Have You Been Able To Drink?

I agree with Edie. Dehydration will cause the dark urine. As for the drinking try getting a little medicine cup and drink one of those every 15 minutes that will help get you started, set a timer if you need to. It does get easier. At 6 months out I have no trouble getting my liquid in, also jello, and broth counts towards your liquids

The biggest helper is a --SCHEDULE-- use your time early on to get used to the new way of getting everything in. WATER is much more important than the few bites you can get in ...

we focus so much on food we forget that we NEED WATER most of all..

buy bottles of water and have them setting in the front of the fridge for yourself..the day's allotment and set them on the counter when empty so you know if you made it or not. That really is the easiest visual way to know for sure you are getting in enough.

dehydration can kill you...WATER is very very VERY VERY important to push all the time....even at 5.5 yrs out I can get dehydrated very easily. I pay attention all the time to the color of urine so that I can tell immediately if I've not taken in enough.

At the beginning I had a hard time getting down my water, but everyday that passed by I got more and more water in becasue I was scared of getting dehydrated. I also watch the color of my urine and another tip my sister told, she is a nurse, is to take the skin on the top of my hand and pull it, if it does not go back in place pretty fast, that also means a person is dehydrated. If I notice that my uraine is starting to get dark I really start pushing the water. My daughter fills so many bottles of water a day to equal what she is suppose to drink. She trys to drink them in one day but on a few ocasions she did say that she sometimes can only get in only 3/4 of the water she is suppose to get in. But that is so few and far in between she said, but it does happen once in a while for her. My problem is that I retain fluids and about 2 times a week I have to take a water pill to get rid of the excess fluids. I can tell when I need to take a water pill is that I have a harder time walking. I hope this gets better as I lose more weight, But I did notice since I lost 100 pounds that it takes longer to fill up with excess fluids compared to at the beginning of my surgery.

I'm allowed to drink right up to the point of eating, and wait an hour after eating to drink again....you need to pump those fluids to wash out the ketones (fat burned cells)....It will get easier and you will find your routine...it takes a little while at first to get in the groove!

The pain may be an indication of cystitis, contact your surgeon or your PCP, you may need a few days of antibiotics. The dark color can come from dehydration, but given the pain, it also can be another sign of cystitis, so make sure you get checked out by your surgeon or PCP.

Another aspect of dehydration with WLS post oppers is that you can develop kidney and gall stones, so, though it's going to be hard in the beginning, be sure to work on your water intake.

((((((HUGS))))) May your journey go well.

Small, frequent sips. Like everyone said, it will come with time. setting a sechedule is a great idea. I wish I had thought of that when I first had surgery! Did't know about ya'all then..... This place is wonderful!

Not sure what I should do after I have surgery. I work in the OR. You can't drink in an OR. I worry all the time about how I will sip sip sip all day when I'm not allowed to! I guess I'll come across that bridge when I get to it. For now just keep it up and take one day at a time. It seems from other responses that it does get easier.
