Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I was wondering what the "average" amount of weight i should be losing every week since surgery?? I had the surgery Jan.9th and have only lost 18lbs since that day. I guess I feel with what I am eating, which is about 500 calories a day if that I should be dropping weight faster???

| Super Moderator | You are only a couple of weeks out of surgery. Your body is still healing, and it is going to spend a lot of energy towards healing first, more than anything else. So, it will hold on to everything that comes in, to use as material to heal all the incisions and repairs. You are losing weight *despite* your healing process at this stage. Please keep in mind that the healing and the following readjusting functions stage takes 3-4 months, so until these months are done, your body will still be healing/readjusting and not in full throttle. Quite frankly, there is no average weight loss rate--no one has collected data on a large and continuous basis for such short range comparisons, because such a comparison is meaningless medicine-wise. Researchers and surgeons/medical professionals assess these kinds of data on a much longer term than a week or two--at least six months, up to two years or more. That said, the average weight loss curve is said to be: 50% of your excess weight (50% of the number of lbs you have excess of what weight will put your BMI at 25) in the first 6 months Of the remaining 50%, in other words, the next 25% in between months7-12 The last 25% from month 12 to month18-24. Don't worry about how the scale is moving at this stage, as a matter of fact, don't worry about the scale numbers throughout your journey towards goal. Instead, use that time to set up healthy eating habits and healthy life style. Learn to deal with the issues that will come up during your weight loss journey. That is where you need to spend your energy. If you worry about the scale numbers, it will give you a nasty mind trip, so it's best to step away from the scale. Put your scale away into the closet, or throw it out altogether, and get weighed in only at your surgeons. You've been given the best tool ever, so give it time to heal and adjust to the changed plumbing, so you can get the best out of it. ((((((HUGS)))))))

| Super Moderator | I forgot to add, the weight loss will not come in one fell swoop, no matter how much you will it, it will come in humps and bumps. After all, it took you years and years and years to accumilate the weight, it will not go away overnight, and it going away in one year or so is a miracle in itself, even with surgery, and yet, with surgery, you witness this miracle every day.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | your body will do the work dont worry, you will start to see changes but eventually after two months (in my personal experience) you start to drop weight slowly remember that this is a slow process. believe me after a while you will have lost the interest of weighing yourself everyday I do it once a week now (yes before I was a Scale Junkie). good luck and love to se those pictues in the next months
