Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Hi all! I'm Kathleen and new here. I'm looking at everyone's before and after shots. Ya'll are an awesome looking bunch! I've been reading posts here and there trying to get a feel for things. My gastric bypass is scheduled for March 12th and while my best friend had the surgery 19 months ago she is pretty much THE only source of information I've had. Today was actually the first time I've ever googled "gastric bypass". My surgeon while I hear is awesome has given me little info. As I look at all the before and after shots I can't help but wonder about the journey between the before and afters. I would really like hear from anyone. How on earth do you survive such drastic changes in eating and so on. I welcome any thoughts and advice.

WELCOME!!!!! you'll find SO MANY of our stories on here. there will be LOTS of info on the procedure and nutrition and pos op concerns as well. To answer your question briedly;post op life is difficult in many ways. emotionally, physically etc. its more than just about the food. pull up a chair and make yourself at home read as much as you can. try to understand the procedure and how it works. and ask as many questions as you can think of. someone will most probably jump on and answer you from their experience right away. good luck on he journey |

I'm in the Atlanta Area. Hey ya'll I know there must be vitamins taken after surgery, but I'm told or rather hear you can't take pills after surgery. I am big on vitamins. Do I toss them all for life or what?

I still take pills...started the day after surgery (ya'll REALLY don't want to see me NOT take my estrogen).... I still use chewable vitamins...for calcium and multi.....I like the Bariatric Advantage...and I'm sure you will have others come along with suggestions...I know the calcium needs to be calcium citrate...(we absorb the citrate)! Every morning: 2 chewable calcium 2 chewable multi vitamins 1 estrogen 2 biotin |

Welcome kathleen, like the rest say read as much as you can here and ask any questions you like. Somebody will come along and answer your questions. I have learned so much here and these people are so wonderful and you will get so much imformation here. The first few months were very hard for me becasue I did not like food anymore and my food likes were a small catagory. Chili was the best food that settled in my pouch and the first 6 weeks I ate alot of cottage cheese, high protein puddings and protein shakes, yogarts. I had a real hard time with tunna and other canned fishes. Once I could start eating chili, I think it was around 6 weeks after surgery and then I practaclly lived on it because it felt the best in my pouch. The high protein puddings was another one I ate alot of. I still eat high protein pudding, it is high in protein and it is fast to just open the can and eat it. I sometimes do not want to cook and that is when I usually eat the high protein puddings or my protein shakes. My husband is so wonderful when I do not want to cook becasue sometimes just smelling the foods made me sick to my stomach so my husband would make himself either a potpie or a tv dinner. I am alot better with food now and cook all his meals now, but very rarely he will cook for himself if I do not feel good. Again, Welcome to the board, you will love it here.
