Default Okay, whats the deal ya'll?

I see several of you have lost weight and your surgery date has not yet come to pass? Are you on current weight loss programs now?
Also I love my vitimans (pill form). Can I keep them up after surgery? I heard I'll have to take a liquid form of B. But does that mean I can't take the pill forms anymore.
My surgery is coming up and honestly I feel like I know very little about what to expect before, during and after.
How long does the surgery take? I heard 4 hours, surely not?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Welcome to the site, you will enjoy it here there is a lot of info here to read about. and the people are wonderful in there advice.

My surgery took about 2 hours, I guess it depends on your surgeron and what type of surgery you are having. As for the vitamins I take chewabel vitamins and they have a good taste (Centrum Adult chewables), Calcium chewables, and under the
tounge b12. It works out well for me, and I do take some pills as long as the are small enough. Your surgeron should advice you as what you should do. I am glad that I have had this done and would do it over again in a hearbeart. Good luck on your journey and ask all the questions that you have and someone here is sure to help out in trying to answer them.

Hello! Yes, some of us had to do weight loss pre-op. I know my ins. and surgeon required it and I lost 40 lbs in 6 weeks on a pre-op liquid diet.
My surgery took about 3 hours.
I take my flinstone and caltrate chewables, but take my wellbutrin, singulair and omeprazole in regular form. The first two are small pills and the last one is a small capsule type thing, but I only have to take it for 6 months post-op. Taking even these small ones makes me burp after and feel full because I need a bit more to get them down than I normally sip, but it's all good.
So welcome and I hope you find your answers!!

I am sure each surgeon has a different opinion, but my surgeon says that any pill smaller than a m&m is fine early post-op. I take bugs bunny complete twice a day and was told at my 3 month follow-up I could go back to regular vitamins (pills) if I prefered. I am sticking with the bugs bunnies.

My surgery was a quick 90 minutes.

All the best to you,
Tonya

Wow, I am impressed with your pre-op weight losses. If I could do as well as you all have I wouldn't need the surgery! My surgeon has given such a little amount of info and the process has been, well not really a "process" at all. (Or not enough to skeak of.) I seemed to have slid through it all and now with my upcoming surgery I'm gettin a bit nervous knowing so little and been given hardly any info from my surgeon or his staff. Is that normal? I know I go for my dietician appointment the end of this month. I had to ask what that was for. And was told it was a diet plan post op. I don't know, it just seems like there should be more mandatory education for such a huge life-altering surgery.

I was not required to lose weight before surgery, I had Lap Roux en Y and it took about 2 hours. As for B12, I could not stand the liquid but I found a B12 at Whole Foods that is a small dot that dissolves under your tongue. I would ask your surgeon, about the vitamins he requires, most are different, I have to take Flintstones Multi chewable, Calcium Citrate chewable and the B12.

My program recommended losing a minimum of 12 pounds before surgery to shrink the liver to reduce likelihood of open RNY. If you're program isn't going to put you in liquids a few weeks before start the other rules early like not drinking w/ your meal and waiting until 30 mins after meal to drink again. Have your "last suppers" at least 2 weeks before surgery so you can get that liver shrinking. You won't be able to swallow big vitamins they recommend 3 months, just because your pouch is so small. Everything is chewable, most of us use Flinstones Chewables with iron some use Centrum. whatever it is CAN'T have calcium in it. You take your calcium separate. Start buying your vitamins now so it isn't such a big hit on the pocket. Don't buy bunches of your protein drink, learn that from me. I bought a few cases of Low Carb Slim Fast and was drinking that a few times a day pre-surgery. Post surgery it gagged me, my taste totally changed, had to do some serious shopping once I got to that point 2 weeks post surgery when i could drink protein again. Liquid vitamins taste horrible, at least get chewables that are moderately enjoyable, everyone is different with their tastes, that's why you'll have to test them out on your own. Good luck, do as much planning as you can, it so helps you post surgery to eas your mind.

I have to be on a strick protein shake (medifast) diet for 8 weeks preop. This is not an easy fix, nor do I enjoy it, but I must deal with it. NO FOOD, only 5 shakes/day & water. This weight loss is obviously temporary since it comes off realll.... quick, in fact, I think the minute I consume any food I would gain back the weight PLUS!!!
The surgeon wanted me to lose 10% of my body weight which was 29.8 to decrease my liver size to make it easier to work with during the surgery.
To say the least, I'm really happy with the results!
I've been doing this for 28 days & lost 29 lbs!!

I think that whether or not my surgeon had required me to lose the weight, I would have still tried because the benefits are so great. Also, I REALLY DON'T WANT AN OPEN!!!!!

LOL,
