Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | This is my regimen. I was just cleared to take B-1 yesterday and just upped my B12 to daily. 11 am Flinstones Complete MV B12 B1 (just began this today) 3pm Citrical Chew 8pm Flinstones MV 10 pm Citrical Chew Surgeon said addin the B1 and the Iron. I'm confused on some things. Is the Flinstones Complete adaquete? Surgeon thinks so but I dont know. My MV says it has 100% daily Iron needs in one and I take 2 a day. However, it also says that it has "elemental Calcium" 10%. Does that mean my body is not absorbing the Iron? So, do I need to start doing one chewable Iron a day too? Is all B1 these little annoying capsules that I cant break open easily and have to pour in to my yogurt, which tastes gross..are there options.. Am I taking the right things together and apart? ' Is 1000 mg enough Calicium bc for now, thats all I can get thru. Im having a hard time remembering the Calcium 4 times a day. Im having a hard time remembering anything. Ok I think ive said enough with my two threads today...God I wish things would get easier. Thanks for all your support everyone..really you have no idea... |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I know getting in the right amounts of the vitamins is not easy, I was having trouble getting in all of mine and still don't think that I get enough MV. Here is what I have been taking, I take a Centrum adult MV at breakfast then around 10 a caltrate calcium with Vitamin D 600mg, then around 3 calcium, and then after supper calcium. My surgeons office told us about a new vitamin for gastric bypass patients it is called Optisource and I don't know if other states can get it or not it is made in MN and it is available at walgreens and you only need to take 4 of these a day, they have all of the required amounts of all of the stuff that we need. I am going to switch to these. It will make it easier to take all of the vitamins. I also have been putting out the vitamins on the counter so they are right there and I don't forget. I hope this gets better for you. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I take the Flintstones chewables myself, reccommended by my surgeon. As for Calcium, I was told to make sure it was Calcium Citrate, NOT Calcium Carbonate, because of the latter not absorbing.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Thanks.. wondering about the B1 and the B12 and Multi together..also wondering about how much calcium is enought and the Iron supplement...is it ok to stick with what is in the MV or does the fact that it has 10% elemental calcium in it make all that Iron not absorb.. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I am taking the flintstones complete and a chewable iron tablet. I also take actigal and vitamin D which are in capsules and I have to open them to take. I have found that taking them with Orange Juice helps with taste. I empty them into a table spoon and dip the spoon into the OJ and then take it like you would liquid medicine followed by a sip of OJ. Goes down much easier than mixed in pudding or yogurt. I had a hard time with the chewable calcium citrate from the doctors office so he told me I could take viactive style. Since that is calcium carbonate, I take several thru out the day in hopes to absorb enough of it. I just started B12 and I need to add biotin. I bring a snack baggy to work everyday full of all my chewables and it looks like a bag of sweet tarts! |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | OH and by the way...they say to not take iron and calcium together, that the iron hinders the calcium absorption, so I take the iron in the am and start my calcium a couple hours later and take thru out day when I think of it. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Oh god, i wish I could talk you all into not taking Centrum AT ALL, It doesn't break down in your digestive tract and most of it actually comes out unabsorbed in your stool (I know an awful word, but we share everything here). I take Flinstone Chewable w/ Iron in am along with my Pepcid chewable to prevent stomach ulcers, I was breaking up the calcium and doing the 4 times a day thing but ended up taking one at bed time. Re" the iron, you are two months out you should be able to swallow a small iron pill, I swallow alot of non chewables now, just not more than two at a time. I take 50mg of iron once a day and chase it with a chewable vitamin C to help it absorb, even drink some V8 if you like it, that helps absorbtion too. Yes, NO calcium w/ vitamins whatsoever, prevents iron absorbtion and anything else, that's why you don't take a multivitamin w/ calcium in it, it prevents the absorbtion of the multi too. I have my second flinstone chewable at dinner then was told to take the iron and c a half hour after dinner when I can drink again so the multi is well gone by then. I know, ya feel like a pill popper but it will be that way forever, don't fall off that wagon, you'll just feel funky and it takes forever to bounce back. My blood levels have stayed perfect with my current regime so that says something. There are some good liquid vitamins that dont have iron but they taste beyond what you can imagine, sorry for even mentioning it.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I take Flintstones Complete chewables with breakfast and lunch, Vit D, Biotin, flaxseed oil and a sublingual (under the toungue) B12 during my morning drinking time, Calcium Carbonate chewable as a treat sometime during the day, Calcium Citrate and another flaxseed during evening drinking time. Here are a few rules I've found: Take your multivitamin with food. The fat soluable vitamins (A,D,E, K) need fat to help them digest. Take Iron with C, best on an empty stomach and nothing for an hour - so consider nighttime with a glass of OJ. Never with caffine, eggs, dairy, grain or other vits or meds. No fiber with vitamins/minerals. No Calcium with Iron and only 500 mg at a time. That's all your body can deal with at one time. It needs Vit D to be absorbed but it's usually packaged with D. PS: I compared the Flintstone Complete to several "adult" multivits on the market and 2 Flintstones have the same amount as one adult and provides 100% of everything except Calcium and Vit K, which you get if you take Calcium Carbonate (assuming you absorb it). Calcium Citrate doesn't have K with it but I'm not sure it's a big deal. Last edited by not quite Barbie : 02-06-2008 at 11:17 AM. |
