It's on my list of meds that I have to take for 6 months post op to avoid gall stones.
Does anyone else have to take them?
I looked it up on-line and they come in capsule form, but info was pretty scarce. I hate capsuls too because aren't we not supposed to do caps? I do take one small one, but it's omeprazole (prilosec) which I also have to take for 6 months.
Any advice on a good place to get 'em?

Well my update is that my doc doesn't make his pt's take them - it's the old retired docs instructions. My poor doc has been there for 6 months, the other lady doc for a year and they still have only the retired guy and the one who's been there for 2 years on the website. Their names aren't even on the door!

if you still have your gall bladder, you may want to ask about the actigall....we are bypassing the gall bladder now and anything in there can harden and turn to stones....actigall will keep anything that forms dissolved.....if you've had problems with your gall bladder in the past, it could be worth checking into!

I did have to take something but i cant think of it for the life of me right now. It wasnt the one the others mentioned but same idea though. It was for the first 6 months to help prevent the gallbladder problems.

Kath, I have never had problems before at all. My doc had some pretty good reasons for not having his pts take it and I can't remember all the details, but it sounded good when he said it. It was one of my questions. Something about there being no real proof, that it doesn't make a difference either way and most people are non-compliant because I guess it tastes awful. We'll see. If I even suspect I'm having any symptoms, I will get right on it. I also work with a group of 5 awesome docs who do countless lap chole's. It's actually one of my favorite procedures to be in on either scrubbed or circulating - not that I want surgery, but I can talk to any of them on any given day. I overheard a conversation one time and a lady asked another who her primary doc was and she said .. who's ever in the hall! It's so true. I've already consulted docs and they are so awesome! I've seen a few write scripts right then and there for people for antibiotics and inhalers, etc... It's really a nice perk. That and when you have OR parties outside of work, you party with the docs too!

| I was told to take them too but never filled it. Has anyone taken it and has gallbladder problems?? or not taken it and NOT have problems?? I am really not sure what to do cause its definatley not full proof the surgeon told me it only cuts down the chances not to develop problems. so I am undecided as to whether to take it. Thank you so much for starting this thread cause I really would like to know.
