Oh yeah I totally agree! As a matter of fact I was out shopping earlier and I got to thinking that last year I would have stayed in the house because I couldn't have handled being out in the heat.
What part of Houston do you live? I am from Deer Park.

Hey y'all!!! I am from Pasa-get down-dena. LOL I am a Texas gal through and through. I couldn't even imagine living anywhere else. I am a 29y/o single parent to a rambunctious, annoying, and beautiful 9 almost 10 y/o. She's the reason I had the surgery in July.
My main reason for having surgery is to nip Diabetes in the bud. Diabetes and Fibromyalgia run in my family along with heart disease and hypertension. Luckily, even though I am a big girl, I haven't personally come face to face with these diseases although I did live with it. My mom passed in Dec 09 due to a potassium induced heart attack. Why potassium induced you say? Well she had end stage renal failure that was brought on by her high blood pressure and uncontrolled diabetes. By the time we found out, she had 6% function left in her kidneys and needed to be dialyzed 3xweek for 4 hours at a time. It was hard seeing her going through that. It was a wake up call losing my mom at the tender age of 60. I mean she didn't get to see her granddaughter grow up, graduate, and become a beautiful woman. I miss her so much. Well now you can see why I am going through this procedure. I don't ever want to put my daughter through endless doctor appointments and hospital stays and worrying. It was stressful.
Well sorry to put some gloom on the board but I wanted my Texas peeps to know more about me.
Maybe we can arrange a Texas Losers get together soon. That would be nice. I got the hook up in Canyon Lake. LOL.

Hey ya'll I'm in Frisco (North of Dallas off Dallas N tollway). I just found this space and am trying to learn through it. My computer has been having blue screen of death events and this is not a good time for it. Just got my surgury date.
I'd think there would be more TX folks on here too.

Hey I have diabeties and fibro also. I'm hoping to kick the diabeties but haven't heard how it works for fibro. Would be interested to know how you feel that's working for you. One of my concerns is that the fibro fog and early morning pains would block my desire to keep moving on..sometimes it stops me like I've hit a brick wall.

Weight Loss MethodSleeve Gastrectomy
| Hi Everyone
I am Donna and I live in a very small town just west of Abilene Texas. I first learned of what a gastric sleeve was about 3 years ago when I bumped into a friend in the grocery store one night after I attended and had just rejoined Weight Watchers for the 3rd time. We both used to be in Weight Watchers before this. My friend had lost so much weight and I asked her how she did it and she told me she went to Mexico to have the sleeve done. She was raving about how great it was and how I needed to do it. I remember coming home that night and just bursting into tears. My husband asked what was wrong and I said I just saw Lori in the grocery store and she's lost so much weight in about 3 months that will take me months to lose through weight watchers and I feel daunted. I have wanted this surgery ever since I saw her.
My doctor did blood work on me in December 2011 and he said Donna you have got to have this surgery. I'm borderline diabetic, on 2 blood pressure pills, prevacid, cymbalta plus a few other OTC vitamins etc. Also, I can't stand for very long before my back is killing me and if I sit down the pain goes away instantly. Eight weeks of therapy and manipulations last summer with a Chiropractor didn't even help. By now I weight 365 lbs. More than I ever have in my life. My legs both swollen and I have veinus stasis.. ugly rash on the front of both shins along with bruising. Both legs look absolutely horrible on the front. Even my toes would swell and I felt like the Pillsbury doughboy.
Not to mention all the things I still want to be able to do. I am 48 years old and I have a 15 year old daughter that I am totally missing out on her life now because I never feel like doing anything with her. She has been such a blessing and a big help and support to me.
I made a call to the Decatur office of My Bariatric Solutions and my journey began. They kept up with me each week.. they put me on a diet, helped me get approval from my insurance company, and had me go through a lot of pre testing before they would set a date for a surgery.
On April 18, 2012 I finally had my gastric sleeve surgery in Decatur Texas. Dr Scott Stowers did my surgery and he was really great with me. I have to say the most difficult thing for me through the whole thing while i was there had to be having to drink that horrible stuff the next morning to check for leakage .. ugh!
This Wednesday will mark 4 weeks since my surgery and I now weigh about 296 lbs. I haven't been below 300 lbs in a very very long time. That alone is such a milestone for me. I am having a hard time finding things I can eat. I will get something in my head and think I can eat it and will try just a little, then the ferocious heartburn sets in. I got very very sick on grilled chicken the other day. I didn't' even eat much of it at all but I threw up 4 times trying to get it out of my system.. the day before that I got sick on tuna fish. Ever since my surgery I can't get hardly any of my protein down or my water. It seems to hit me about mid chest and burns so bad. Yet I can drink things like gatorade and it doesn't. I have so many types of protein here it's not even funny. Yesterday I got some of the unflavored protein powder and put it in 2% milk to see if I could get it down that way... I got so sick. So I supposed you could say I'm in my trial and error stage. I wish you could get protein in a pill at this point :S
It's really great to find this forum to be able to talk about this. I know a few around here that have had the same surgery but I haven't talked to them at length about it. I also know that it's different for everyone. So for now I'm just taking one day at a time with this. Trying to give it time to heal.
Ladyndawg (Donna)
