Default Need some prayers

Ok, my supervisor and mentor, was rushed to the hospital twice within a few days, during the second trip she was in a lot of pain, and she was ultimatley diagnosed as having a leak in her intestine. Jamie, my supervior, is 3 years post op from Rouxen Y Gastric Bypass, and had been doing wonderfully. She was initially diagnosed with a urinary tract infection by a local hospital and when she went back for the second time they finally did some tests that determined that she had the intestinal leak and they sent her back to Durham Regional to be cared for my the surgeons that did her surgery (thank goodness). I know it can be very serious and she has a tough road ahead of her, but how does this happen so far out and can it be prevented? I will be 4 months post op on Wednesday, June 3, and this has freaked me out. If you could say a quick prayer for Jamie and her family and shed some insight on this for me, I would be very grateful. Thanks and have a blessed day!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Keeping your supervisor in my prayers.

By leak, it sounds like she had a blockage that perforated. Actually, blockage can happen ANY time once you have had some kind of abdominal surgery, not just RNY or weight loss surgery, even with C section and hysterectomy. Adhesion and torsion causing blockage isn't that common, but nor is it rare. It can be treated surgically, and though if left till too late, it can become life threatening, but if it's caught in time and treated accordingly, it shouldn't be of excess concern. You just may end up with a shorter gut.
Know the signs. Pain that comes and goes at first, then steadily gets worse, fever as well, either local(tummy) or systemic(general), and as it advances, nausea/vomitting/diarrhea accompanied by foul smells.

Have you heard of a Petersens hernia? Thats when the fat that your stomach was sewn to is gone ant there is nothing there to hold the intestine in place anymore. This is a very serious condition and can be deadly. The symptoms are severe pain due to the torsion ( twisting) of the intistines. I found this info during my research into RnY. I don't know how often this occurs but every RnYer should be made aware of it. People have died of it. No sense being afraid of it but we all should be aware.
