| Very Confused...about having the surgery
I went to the hospital today to register for surgery that will bew monday, Nov 14. The nurse who was taking care of me was actually trying to talk me out of the surgery,, She said you don,t need it just go to the gym get a trainer and eat right and you will be able to lose the weight... I said I've been doing that and it hasn't worked so thats why I'm here..She just kept going on and on and gave me a name of a book to read (Sugar Buster).
Then she said, you have until Sunday to cancel, don't tell the doctor cause I'll just deny it..Yeah right she's just afraid of losing her job...
Well anyway she has put doubt in my mind.

Pardon my opinion, but she should be shot. As a healthcare provider, let me apologize for this inappropriate intrusion on your psyche. First of all, you most certainly tell the doctor, she has no right and should find other work. You've made a decision that could quite literally save your life....if it were as easy as dieting and taking the great advice of others, Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers and all of these great medical professionals would be out of business. On the other hand, this is major surgery and there are always risks, some of those cause death also. That's the reality, in a nutshell. This is a tool, a HUGE step in the right direction....not the end all for you. If you're nervous, you're smart- this is serious. Talk with your doctor, especially the anesthesiologist about your fears and how they will keep you safe on your big day. Shame on her and those people around us who can't seem to offer support during these times. Trust yourself! Can't wait to hear of your successes.

Don't let her discourage you. Look how far you have come and the time you have invested in something that will change your life for the better. You deserve to "become healthy". Just because SHE doesn't think you need this...xmt know that YOU DO. That's all that matters. Most of us here have had those same doubts because of what others say. Do what you need to do FOR YOU...and not for anyone else. We are all here for you. We know what you are going through. What better people to have on your side...those who have gone through it too.

This is your choice and your business. Do what you want. It is not her body. Good luck.

Don't let anyone change your mind. This is a personal choice that will save your life. Despite all the issues I've had so far I would never go back and change my decision to have my surgery. Talk to your doctor and a therapist if you are haaving second thoughts and I would definately report that nurse to both your doctor and the hospital.

(((HUGS))) You need to do what you need to do to become healthy. It's your choice, and no one else has the right interfere.
The nurse's conduct is very unprofessional. You MUST let your surgeon, and the office admin as well, know what's going on. It's quite clear that you aren't the first person she approached that way, and won't be the last person if you let it go, and don't give your surgeon the oportunity to deal with it.You should also let these people know that she said she'd deny it if you told the surgeon. That way, the surgeon will know what answer to expect, and enable him to better deal with her. More power to you. That she's aware that her conduct is unprofessional is quite clear, so she needs to know that she can't get away with such conduct and threats.

I suppose she was saying this based on her intimate knowledge of your case and needs? She's studied your records and test results in great detail, and knows from her extensive training in bariatric medicine that your surgeon hasn't had access to? Anyone with this expertise should have at least charged you for a consultation, don't you think?
She didn't do that? Then (not to put too fine a point on it) she is a moron and an ass, and doesn't deserve to work in a job dealing with real live human beings. I would suggest she find a new career working the packing line in a fish factory ship in the Bering Sea.
After your surgeon gets done with her, that may be the only thing she can find!!
