Post I am four months post op

I was hoping that someone would give me some advice. I am 4months post-op, and healthwise I am doing fine. I've lost a total of 57pounds thus far. However, I've noticed that my hair appears to be breaking/thinning. Im getting in the daily recommened amount of protein. Is there anything else I can do?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hi. Welcome to the boards. I am sorry I dont have much to offer. I am only 2 months out myself. This does happen though. Some of the old timers will tell you they have used biotin supplements to speed up the re-growth process. Others have increased the protein. I havent experienced this as yet and I only hope it doesnt get too bad.
Congratulations on losing 57 lbs!!

Hi and welcome to the board. I think you will like it here. I just had my preop consult with my Dr. this Tuesday. My surgery is scheduleld for the 25th. He did warn me about hair thinning and loss. BUT he said the Biotin (Walmart has it) helps some but not all postop patients. The good news is this will only last not usually more than 6 months and has never seen anyone go bald. Hopes this makes you feel some better. Congrats on your fantastic weight loss. Mattie

HI candybrown!
welcome to the forums!
and im sorry to advise this is a phase that comes with the rapid weight loss. YOu can try biotin to speed up new hair growth ...but not much you can do to prevent this hard phase.
MY hair dresser strongly advised no ponytails, haircoloring and over styling till i was past this phase. FOR me it began between month three and four and lasted thru month 12...hated it....
be strong
not much you can do, i promise you wont go completely bald
but you will have a good deal of thinning!
i look forward to getting to know you thru future posts

I had thinning too. I am starting to get some hair regrowth and use Nioxin to help. It just takes time for it to come back and I try to keep my protein up to encourage the lack of thinning. Hang in there and remember this is only a phase and it should pass soon.

Hugs,

It good to know that I won't go bald Thanks for your response. Hopefully I can make it through this phase. It's encouraging to hear from others who have gone through the same.

Thanks again,

Candy

I am only three months past surgery. I'm not losing hair yet. I dread that too. My hair is already just naturally thin and fine. Wigs?!

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Congratulations on your weight loss, way to go, and keep up the good work!!
If you dig into some old threads, you'll find lots of references to the hair thinning.
It is temporarly and your hair will come back, though it takes time.
(((((((HUGS))))))) May your journey go well.
