| Whipper Snapper | Hey there guys... well... i have decided to go see my doctor today. even gaining a ew lbs to me is almost enough to bring tears to my eyes. I am between 210 and 220 lbs and i used to weight almost 275 so i'm very worried that the doctor is going to tell me i don't have enough weight to loose to qualiy for the sugery. I did the bmi test on here and it said 35-39.5 i believe was the range.. anyway what this post is actually about is I was wondering which approach i shoudl take with y doctor.. what should i say to him I'm so nervous he will be completely against it. I am goign in a lil prepared I have done some research but i don't know all the facts or anything by any means... what do you guys think |

| Super Moderator | Pamma, the best way to "deal" with any dr is to be honest with him/her. Lay out your fears, your hopes, that you feel like crap with even a few lbs gained, just everything, and no question is too stupid to ask, either. Make a list of things that you feel you need to tell your dr, and a list of things you have learned about weightloss surgery, and why you feel this is the option you need to take. True, there are still many drs against the surgery, but with the increase in morbid obesity and the seriouness of the co-morbidities, you may find your dr quite supportive of you. A few of the members here have been surprised with their drs being supportive of the surgery when they approached their dr about it. So, just be honest and straighforward. That is the best approach with anything that you very seriously want, actually, not just this surgery. (((((((((HUGS))))))))) and good luck.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Most insurance companys will ask you to be a BMI of 40 or higher to have the surgery with out any comortalities. 35-39.9 with comortalities. My sister went to her dr and asked about the surgery, she has alot of comortalites and is a BMI of 38.9 She has lost 20 lbs in the last year so her dr said she would not refer her to the program because she can loose weight. I am telling you this so if you hear the same thing you wont be surprised. Also I know someone in my surgeons office that wants to have the surgery, she is about the same weight as yourself and was 5'4" She got the dr to refer her because she claimed she had all thes co-mort and they were never diagnosed through testing. She was telling me that she is now being tested for them, and if any of them show up negative after she told them that she had them she will not be able to have the surgery covered through the insurance.

| Guru In Training | Pamma,I had WLS in July,2006 and my weight was only 209 but I had lots of co-morbities, my BMI was only 36 something not enough to qualify, but all my co-morbities were the trick. mY insurance never questioned it.. approval was almost instant. I have lost 40 lbs, totally off all my meds... give it your all... it can happen.. Peggy

| Guru In Training | Co mobities are things like.. skin tags, high blood pressure, family history of diabeties, water retention, family history of heart problems, athsma, infections under the boobs or under folds of skin, gall bladder, kidney stones, things that obese people get. Peggy
