I did a lot of research and would recommend the same for you. I chose RNY and I am very happy with the choice. For me, it helps to have sugar and fats cause "issues" as it's a great behavior modification beyond just a smaller stomach. Plus, I had a lot of weight to lose and my Dr. said that statistically RNY would give me the best result.
Everyone is different- I had no major complications. I have 2 young children and this was the best decision I made for myself. I am sure whatever you choose will be the right decision for you!

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Congratulations on your date.
(((((((HUGS))))))) May your journey go well.
All surgeries have their advantages and disadvantages. You will have to decide for yourself what you would like, and wouldn't like.
Read through this board on the related subjects--do searches with key words and read the threads that come up.
Do a lot of search and research, knowledge is power, and you are the only person who in the end can decide for yourself.

I had lap RNY and I would recommend it but you have to consult with your doctor on the choices that are best for you. Although if you can do laproscopic, I would highly recommend it. It is less invasive and you heal more quickly. I did not have any complications from the surgery and recovery was very easy. There are only a few incisions and they healed completely with no problems. I am always saying this was the best thing that I ever did for myself. Good luck in making your choice.

Hello and welcome. good luck what ever you choose. Every one is different. I was lucky I had 2 doctors recommend the R N Y for. It has worked well for me. I would do it again tomorrow if need be. This one you will have to decide for yourself. this has been life changing for me. Just read and research you will know what is best for you. Again good luck on your journey. See ya on the losers bench.

I personally chose the lap GBS instead of the lapband, which were my 2 options.
Reasons why:
1. longer time being done= the surgeons have had time to "perfect" the surgery JUST FOR ME!!!
2. I needed to lose more than 100 lbs & wanted QUICKER results.
3. I HATE going to the MD's so having to have the band adjusted is NOT appealing to me 1 bit!!!
whatever you chose, be sure to do as much research as possible...
talking to people that didn't have either of your choices done may only give you NEGATIVE feedback, so careful who you speak to before your empowered with solid info/facts.....
Good luck with your decision.
Congrats on your date, its right around the corner!!!!
LOL,

I am having the sleeve done tomorrow. I did a lot of research and looked at my life and decided the sleeve was better for me. My surgeon was supportive of either RNY or the sleeve--he is not a big lapband fan because he has removed so many due to complications. For my own personal reasons, I chose the sleeve and I am excited about it. The hospital stay and downtime are similar--the surgery is not quite as long but... Also, check with your insurance, some do not cover the sleeve right now.

I had RNY..and one of my friends opted for lap band...she doesnt get the bonus features included in RNY. As mentioned previously..RNY turns a person right off sugars and fats...and high carbs. Which are all the things that got me into this mess in the first place. Lapbands allow for, lets see (recalling the weekend) .... bags of chips, desserts, mcdonalds..and apparently all you have to do if you eat to much is throw up or have a drink so it perculates through the lil opening quicker and you can eat more. In three months i bypassed her in size and she had hers done last year. Personally im so happy i chose the RNY and i also concurr that i would do it again in a heartbeat.

My wife voted for RNY for herself after seeing the results I've had with it. I didn't push her into WLS, she dove into it on her own, but when I had mine, she was very uncertain of the whole thing. You need to decide what works for you, and why. WLS is not the easy way, no matter those experts who know nothing about it may tell you. For me it was a last resort. Same for my wife, but it has been miraculous in its effects!!
Educate yourself on the subtleties of each procedure. Learn why many of us have chosen RNY and others the sleeve or lap bands. Consider these choices carefully if you decide that WLS is what you really want. You only get to have one, and that's essentially a permanent choice, so choose wisely!
Good luck!

I would totally say its the type of eater you are. Volumes of anything and everything, get the LapBand, junk, sugar fats, the type of food you eat needs to be controlled, by the RNY. Its quicker, if volume is your only problem the sleeve will work fine, just won't be as quick, be patient.
