I to have PCOS and suffered with infertility have had 6 pregnancies 2 ectopic 2 miscarriages and 2 wonderful children was on metformin and that is how I got pregnant with my last child. Metformin was the worst thing I ever took. Before I had surgery I was on metformin blood pressure meds and cholesterol meds I take none of them now haven't had them since the day of my surgery!! my periods are like clockwork and so much lighter. I wish I had this surgery years ago has made a world of difference in my life.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hi -I have/had PCOS and found that my PCOS symptoms are practically gone. My skins is so much better but I still have hairloss issues. I've lost a lot of hair after the surgery but feel so damn healthy, it's worth it.

I like you could lose a bit of weight (for me 20-40 lbs max) and then, I couldn't do anymore. It was never enough weight to get out of the PCOS troubles. I am thrilled that I moved forward with the surgery. It was the right choice for me.

See for me metformin has help so much and the only other meds i have to take is a pill 15days to get my period. As long as i take my pills i dont gain any weight, still no kids but with as heavy as i am i would be worried that they would be born unhealty. I am looking forward to losing this weight and being so much healtyer. For every one with pcos its very hard to see people around you that dont have these problems

I have PCOS as well. Since having the rny, my symptoms have cleared up a lot. My dark patches are gone and my sugar levels are pretty much normal. The only problem that I still have is the hair issue.

I also suffer from infertility. DH and I have been married almost 7 years and we have no children and no pregnancies. I am hoping that once I am cleared to start trying, I won't have any problems. Easier said than done.

Good luck on your journey and if you need us we are here!!

My endocrinologist suggested WLS to help with my PCOS. The symptoms were taking over my life and I was miserable. When I was younger, I sought treatment through my gynecologist. I don't feel like she really understood the disorder - its symptoms and long-term effects. She put me on BC, which did no more than regulate my cycle.

When my doc first mentioned WLS, I was kind of offended. I knew I was heavy, but I didn't think I was that heavy. So I opted to try meds instead. Metformin did me no good. I lost a little bit, but then it stopped. I felt like I had the stomach flu every day for an entire year. I finally told my endo that I was done with the meds, let's get this surgery thing rolling.

WLS may seem like an over-the-top way to deal with an endocrine disorder (that's right ladies - PCOS is an ENDOCRINE disorder), but if you've lived with it, you're willing to try anything to get rid the pain, infertility, etc.

IMHO, I think insurance companies (or whoever is in charge of these decisions) need to reevaluate and add PCOS as a qualifying comorbidity.

Good luck!

This is really interesting, I have PCOS, started experiencing the weight gain in when I was 20 and went off BCPs. Had tons of trouble when we WANTED to get PG....didn't get PG until 26, after that, menstrual cycles have been like clockwork, but i still suffer from the hair, acne, boils, weight, and my insulin resistance turned into full blown diabetes. I have always had really thick hair, but in the last few years have started to have thinning of my hair in front, and really worry about the extra hair loss associated with WLS. I am really curious if because of the eventual remission or reduction of PCOS symptoms, whether I could expect things to get worse and then better with time....whats your experience?

I saw one of you mention being able to lose maybe 20 lbs, and then having it spring back up....totally me. I can't ever break about 20 lbs lost, I end up on a permanent plateau (like 2-3 months) and then I just...give up, its frustrating. So here I am, hoping.

I've also been told that I have PCOS back in 2004-2005. The dr. put me on Metformin to regulate my cycles (that's about the only issue I have along with infertility) but it didn't work very well. I've been battling irregular cycles and infertility and weight gain-loss since I was 19. I'm now 32 with no children. I've never even been pregnant. I want nothing more than to be healthy, have more energy and be able to have children and keep up with them. I've been on several different kinds of birth control to help regulate my cycles and help with the weight gain... all have had little to no success. I want to be normal; at least as normal as a woman can be.
