Hello Everyone, My name is Mickey. I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and have had a ton of trouble trying to lose weight. I try to lose weight, get a little off, and then my hormons start to effect my eating that I end up in pain if I don't. Anyone know what kind of surgery I could get or any pills (besides birthcontrol) that could help with loseing this weight once and for all?

A LOT of people with PCOS on this board. Just do a search.
You won't be the first should you choose weight loss surgery, and you won't be the last, either.
The majority has had favorable results with weight loss surgery, both weight-wise and other symptoms-wise.

Heya. PCOS was the main reason for my surgery. The symptoms were killer and the uncontrolled weight gains were just taking over my life. I highly recommend it! I can tell you that since having lost a significant amount of weight, 90 percent of my symptoms have all but disappeared. I still suffer from occasional boils and skin rashes, and still have hair issues (much less severe), but I feel like an entirely new person! It feels nice to be like clockwork. I'm aware that my hormones are still a bit off though, and I think they affect my fluidity with weight loss, but I can honestly say that it was the best decision I've ever made. Good luck!!

I have PCOS and had the RnY surgery almost a year ago. I've lost 110 pounds and my PCOS symptoms... nice. I'm on the pill for regularity, and will have a hysterectomy this summer, some time. I am within a stones-throw of my goal, and I feel wonderful. It should be worth talking about with your doctor... as it saved my life, definitely.

I too live with PCOS, and have the same problem. I have elected to do roux en y gastric bypass, my sis in law did it because she too has PCOS among may health probs. She is 2 years post op and is expecting her first baby in May. So yes this is my case as well I hope to have surgery in May, but I have lived with it since I was 20 I am now 25. And hate it I can not live a normal life because of this disease. So hope you find the treatment that is right for you.

PS I noticed you take maybe metformin for the hair right? Well it did not work for me, I take 2 blood pressure meds with metformin, and still no luck had to do laser hair removal, half way through that now and almost $2000 later!!

I have PCOS also and was lucky few with no hair problems. I had infertility and was successful on having a baby 6 yrs ago on clomid and metformin. The only other symptoms I had was weight issues and irregularity. I have still battled irregularity since my surgery, my doc said its hit or miss with some going normal and some still having symptoms, but I still got more weight to loose and so we will see in the future how my symptoms go. I'm actually going back on metformin today to see if it helps, I haven't taken it since before my surgery, I've been hoping I would start to regulate once the rapid weight loss stopped ;( But I had so many other factors health related that made my choice to have surgery and I feel so healthier now I can deal.

I have PCOS too. My hair loss was bad - and then more now after the surgery. But it has slowed down and I hope it thickens up now. (Did anybody else with PCOS have their hair thicken up after this surgery and after their weight loss leveled off??) I am just about 2/3 of the way to my weight-loss goal and it has slowed down a little now. But I am determined to make my goal of 140. I had this Roux en y on 6-15-2009, but in March of 2008 I had a complete hysterectomy. Both were good decisions for me -my mother was only 39 when she died of uterine cancer and I was just past 40 when I found out about the PCOS - so I said take all of it. I feel soooo much better now. Like the Doc said research is best to find out what is best for you.
