Hi eastbruce/ voni and other " pose ers" out there !

I have been following your progress with pose since the beginning / I had my pose surgery on Sunday 27 th November 2011 , and so far doing well . Surgery and recovery a doddle for me , ( that's what attracted me to this in the first place / incision less )

My question is this / eastbruce , you say your now finding the effect of the anchors has worn off ( I've estimated that in your case that's aprox 6 to 7 months) it's fantastic that you have managed to loose 30 lbs, but if your finding that you can eat as much as before / I dread to ask ( and please excuse me for same ) but do you fear you may regain some weight ?

I know this is a " tool" to loose weight , however I was under the impression that this was a permanent procedure / yet the effects do not seem to be permanent , as you have stated , and are experiencing ?

I love that I am no longer pre occupied and almost " obsessed" with food and thinking about food , and feel " normal" at last with my relationship with food - that I dread the day that this effect may wear off for me .

I would love and value your comments

Thank you so much

X alexandrite

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hi alexandrite,
Just caught up with your post and although I haven't heard from Eastbruce for a while, I can tell you how I feel about pose.

I have lost 28lbs since surgery and before Christmas put on around 5 lbs. Which I lost again.

I now find that I'm not that interested by food and certainly my portion sizes have reduced but not by a huge amount. I don't go back for seconds and rarely have a 3 course meal.

However, for me the downside is that as I am on my own a lot in the week (hubbie works away a lot) and as I am no longer interested in food, I tend to pick rather than cook a meal for myself.

I therefore look at pose as a tool that I must, must, must learn to make use of. It's certainly not an automatic fix. I could and have just spent the days munching on the wrong foods.

Just before Christmas I had a stern talk to myself and am now really trying to work through what makes me sabotage this (expensive) opportunity of weight loss.

Watch this space, and good luck with your weightloss.

Hello voni

Thank you so very much for taking the time to reply .

I too find that I don't have much interest in food any more . ( I truly love this effect , because as a yo yo dieter all my adult life - this has brought a welcome "calm" to my mind in relation to food and it's surrounding issues.

My concerns are two fold - the weight definitely does not fall off - I think this simply put - makes dieting possible ( for those of us that are over eaters for a long time ) it definitely helps with hunger ( although does not eliminate it - I often feel hungry )

I'm wondering , in your case , if you bought your procedure through any company ? If you could get any support with the behavioural issue - the snacking or picking - it just doesn't seem worth the effort cooking for one as I'm assuming you do - with your Hubby away during the week .
I find things like "fuller for longer" meals from m and s excellent when I'm on my own , as they seem nutritious enough as they are fresh foods - as opposed to ready made pre processed .

I really hope the effects of pose don't wear off ( as in my hunger comes back as before - and this is short lived ) what a waste that would be .
I have an under active thyroid condition , and as such find it very easy to gain weight and very difficult to loose , so I expect my weight loss to be slower than most .

Very well done on your weight loss so far .

Thank you again for your reply - I will continue to watch this space

Hello-I'm scheduled to have the pose procedure in a few weeks. I'm very uncertain reading these posts if it will be worthwhile. Is there anyone that would definitely do it again if they had it to do again? Are the people that are unhappy with their progress not following the doctor's advice or are they outside the BMI that is suggested for the surgery.

For those that are happy do you have any advice for the post op diet period-is it very hard to do the liquid diet? or does the surgery help with the wanting to eat solid food.

I'm having my surgery in the US is there any a forum where anyone has seen poster from the US that had pose. I will be traveling across the country for my procedure so I'm a little nervous.

I'd love to hear some updates.
Thanks!
Anne

Default Pose liquid diet

Hi annie66

I think it is too early for me to answer your question , if I would have the pose operation again , as it's just been 6 weeks since I had my pose operation .

I have lost 6 pounds in 6 weeks ( which I had to gain to be eligible for surgery ) so I'm really just starting now , as I am now onto " normal" foods again .
I have been sent a diet plan from my hospital - they recommend low gi foods after pose ( 6 weeks after)

I didn't find the liquid stage difficult at all as the operation itself reduced my hunger considerably . It's just a little tedious . I found if I varied it as much as possible that helped with the boredom issue . I was not hungry at all during the liquid stage as the pose procedure reduced my appetite completely during the first week and very gradually came back during the second week .

Time will tell if I can make this worthwhile for me / I am finding some days it seems to help but other days at present - no real change at all for me ( as in a slightly reduced appetite) but must admit I did expect and hope it would help me more , however I'm going to try low gi foods and hopefully results will begin to show on the scales and in my clothes fitting .

Wishing you every success with your weight loss

Alexandrite

Default Post-op Pose

Hello-
Thanks to all that posted about the POSE procedure. I went a head and traveled to Louisianan and had it done four days ago. As of this morning I've lost 5 pounds. I was a little wary of traveling to an unknown doctor and hospital but I really wanted to do this. The surgeon, his office, staff and the surgical center were all above my expectations. Surgeon said that his is using a third generation scope for the procedure that is able to grasp a much deeper pleat, I think he said 6mm instead of 2 that the original had done. He said that when they practiced on animals and went back after a time to see what the pleats looked like that they had grown together so that even if a "basket" were to come loose the stomach would not go back to it's old size. He was very happy and said my surgery went perfect. Now I have to say that I don't feel this has been a cake walk. I had a very sore throat, terrible taste in my mouth both of which are almost gone at day 4 and very sore belly to the point it hurt to take a deep breath. I was a little surprised by the amount of pain I've had but in a way I'm glad because I am very sure my stomach had trauma.
About 12 ancors worth I hear. The surgeon puts them in the fundus nad near the bottom of the stomach as well. The Surgeon did say some people do have appetite return at six months but the amount of food to satisfy hunger should be much less so if you make good choices you will continue to loose. He also said that he feels the POSE research is coming back and looks to be more effective then the lap-band and that he is no longer doing any bands. He does do sleeves etc.. for higher BMI's. Now I wait and drink my protein shakes and try to forget about my mouth for a while!

Hello Annie66,
I'm considering going to Louisiana for the POSE surgery too. Now that it has been a few months for you how are you doing? Was it worth it so far?

Regards, GigNY 2012

Hi all

I am truly sorry to report but I feel I must .

For me , this pose surgery has been a waste of my time , effort and money .

It's effects were very tempoary , about three months .

I had my pose done on 27 th November 2011 , so I'm four months in.

I have lost 6 pounds in total but I had to GAIN that weight to be deemed suitable for surgery .

I stress this is how I'm finding things . At first there did seem to be a restriction and although I was not losing any weight I did feel I was fuller easier , At FIRST .
Any effects wore off before the three month stage .

If anyone is considering this , please ask yourself ,
1. Are you really prepared that this might not work for you ( apparently from the limited data available a surgeon in the Uk stated there is a 10 per cent failure rate )

2. It's an expensive operation / should you consider some other type that is PROVEN SUCESS

Sorry to hear your experience Alexandrite. I have read scores of reports and it seems that half loved it the other half didn't. It also seems the reports that were favorable that I have read are mostly based in the USA. I am very interested in whoever had their surgery done in Louisiana because that is where the I have read the most favorable experienced surgeries have occurred. I have been researching this extensively since trials began several years ago. I'm sorry to say I see a lot of negative feedback from the UK. Very few instances of negative feedback in the USA.
