My doctor was the first to perform this surgery west of the Mississippi. From what I can tell by searching the internet, this procedure world-wide is a little over a year old.
Here's a YouTube video of him doing the procedure in early 2010.

"Gastric imbrication with the aid of EndoFLIP®. Imbrication is a procedure where the physician decreases the size of the stomach using sutures and sewing rather than cutting. The stomach become roughly the same size of a banana. The EndoFLIP® aids the surgery by measuring the stomach so the new stomach isn't too big or too small."
Basically, it's a way of creating a sleeve type surgery, without any actual cutting and removing of the stomach. Makes it completely reversible and revisable.
This is also the FIRST time in the WORLD, where this EndoFLIP thingy is used to make sure the stomach is a good size. Not too big, not too small.
