Default I had the sleeve. Anyone else out there who had the sleeve?

Hello! On Aug 22, 2011 I have the sleeve bariatric proceedure done. I would like to talk to others who may have had this done too. I was happily surprised at how well the surgery went. I am presently trying to get to 80 grams of protein a day, and push up my calories. I didnt realize I was so behind. Now I am pushing protein all day. Raising the calories is not hard, but making it meaningful calories/proteins is the challenge. Would love to hear your story, exchange tips and thoughts.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I'd highly recommend finding a support group in your area for bariatric patients. Try to find one that has multiple sleeve patients. My surgeon has done RNY for around 9 years, and just began doing sleeve surgery about 15 months ago. Protocols are very similar. Make the most of your first 6 months post op, as that's when the majority of your wt loss will happen. Good luck on your journey. Dave

Hey! I had the sleeve on Aug 30th! I am also working on 60-80g of protein a day. I am eating soft foods now. That includes lunch meat. So I eat lunch meat about twice a day. It really helps.

I also had the sleeve, and protein will forever be an issue I'm guessing (I don't think it's too much different from the RNY folks). I try to have some sort of fish every couple of days because of the high protein/low fat combo. Cottage cheese is a good source, also. I plan "meals" around the protein first. I don't really pay too much attention to calories per se, but if you want to count them and add in your excercise, try myfitnesspal.com........it's free and you can find any foods to track. I find this helpful in terms of watching my protein and weight, etc.

Congratulations on joining the Losers' Bench, everyone.
I hope this thread grows, as the number of people with sleeve is increasing steadily.
(((((HUGS))))) May your journeys go well.

I had the RNY in 2000 (yes a while ago). I originally started out at 568 at that time. Today I weigh 384.5 and I am going through pre-pre operation appointments. I guestimate that I will have to wait another 2-3 months. My surgeon is thinking that DS is my best option but he wants to gather more information before deciding.
