Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Did he/she explain why 2 sugeries? I would think one surgery should be enough. You might want a second oppinion. You're doing great on you journey. Keep up the good work. Best of wishes.

Yes at the time I was at 550 LB he said I would plateau with the sleeve. I don't think he know how well I was going to do on my diet.

You have done a wonderful job. Maybe it was your high starting weight that made him say that. I would think one surgery would do it. Good luck and let us know how you are doing.

From what I know, the sleeve would be less risky in terms of surgery for the very large - RNY presents a higher rate of complication the bigger your belly is, so they stage the surgeries for a better result. I'm a big fan of my sleeve, and I've had basically the same results in 6 months as my RNY counterparts (90+ pounds). Perhaps you wouldn't need the second surgery as you've had such great results already....that's an enormous accomplishment already!! Good luck on your journey

Yes, to the OP.
The sleeve itself was first evolved from DS--duodenal swtich, as the first stage of a 2 stage surgery that ended in DS, so check out that procedure. This is often recommended to those who have a lot more to lose than the average person undergoing weight loss surgery. According to your stats, your highest weight was over 600lbs, and you are still at 451 lbs. That's still a lot of weight to lose, and since the basic recommendation for this seems to be those who's BMI is over 60, you do fit that criteria.
There are a couple of memebers who's had their WLS this way, though I don't see them around much anymore. However, there are some old posts.

I have heard the Sleeve was for those with "more" weight to lose...not sure what "more" really means, but I heard that is why it was designed.
A guy in support had the lap band (the surgeon he consulted only did lap bands..so...) but it wasn't helpful.. he started gaining weight. Doc 1 couldn't help him other than "Fills"...and they weren't helping. So he got another doc who took out the band and did the duo switch. He has done well with weight loss since then.
It looks like you are well on your way! Congrats.
Keep researching, reading and talking to help you make your decision.

Here's the link to an old thread about all this. I copied the relevant posts from a different thread, as the info was buried in between the posts of the original thread. Hope this helps.
