Smile Gastric bypass VS gastric banding

I have read about gastric BANDING on medimexicooptions.com and checking out their prices, seems cheaper and safer? How much overweight do you have to be? what is the formula for being obese? 40% your normal weight I heard. yikes! The banding seems the way to go (and sooo much cheaper) and I was wondering after you loose the weight does your skin need to be removed?
my father in law had his knees done (no he is not fat, just old) at this place and got great care.
I just do not have the money for the big bypass. The banding makes more sense. I heard that gastric bypass will be banned one day and only banding allowed? any word on that?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Gillam,

I didn't weigh in on the previous thread, I just had my bypass. I'm happy with my decision. I didn't want the lap band because I figured I could get around it (I'm stupid like that). Of course, everyone's pouch is different with this and I might have a pouch that will let me get into everything, but frankly I can't think of any cookie or cake in the world worth hurling over. And I am a sugar addict and a half. I don't WANT to find out. With lap band I know I could get around the band. Too easy to screw that up. And like everyone else, the whole foreign body thing... I held one too, it's way big for my taste and I'm thinking, they're going to put THAT in ME???? But all that said, that's my opinion and about me.

You need to figure it out for you. Money is a consideration initially, but the follow up adjustments might be more out of pocket down the road and might wind up running you more money in the long run. Have you checked with your insurance about coverage?

My docs used the criteria that if your BMI was fairly low (in the 40s) and you were younger (childbearing age --not ready to stop having kids) it was better to have lapband. It's easier to open up the lapband for better nutrition for a baby. You're kind of stuck with the bypass and you shouldn't get pregnant for at least 2 years I think.

The formula for WLS is usually a BMI of 40 or greater or 35 or greater with 2 comorbidities like blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea, menstrual probs, etc. ....

Good luck on your decision!

HI JUSt wanted to say hi!
AND honestly i feel its a personal
decision!
FOR me after meeting one on one with
my surgeon we both felt that bypass
was the best method for me that the
banding would not have brought me
under 200 lbs which bypass has!

THERE both good choices i have
seen huge successful patients
with banding as well as bypass.

GOOD LUCK on makeing your choice.

yep. personal decison all the way. some start out wanting the band and end up with the bypass or vice versa. you would have to research each, and the risk involved and decide which would give you better health and quality of life.

good luck on your journey

Hi And Welcome

It Funny Because I Had My Mind Made Up With Lap Banding, But Like Everyone Else Has Said There Is To Much Room For Failure With Lapband And You Dont Lose As Much Weight. I Have Also Heard Alot Of Patients Who Get The Lap Band End Up Going In For Surgery Again To Do The Bypass Because They Werent Successful With The Lapband. Plus My Doc Also Thought The Gastric Bypass Would Be A Better Option For Me. But It Is A Personal Decesion So Good Luck With Whatever You Choose.

I need to compare the 'gastric bypass' to the points made here for the 'banding' point by point as possible
Gastric
I like the idea of a surgery being reversed and adjusted. being under the knife scares me, hopefully not to death, so many risks, but then over weight and high blood pressure is a risk too, right? ad all of you lok so great!
