I 2nd what clancy said.....the band is restriction only; GB is restriction + mal-absorption....I KNEW I WOULD FIND A WAY TO CHEAT THE BAND...I needed something to HELP me make the life changes! GB pretty much forces you to adhere...my step sister had the band...she's having TONS of trouble, she pukes after EVERY meal, and she has to go get adjusted often.....(plus she's eating/drinking things she shouldn't)......

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Diddo with Kathy and Sherrie. I looked into both and felt that the statistics and success were greater with gastric. I feel wonderful and would make the same decision again. Good luck on your choice.

You should really discuss this one with your surgeon. Based on your health and personal history, he will be in the best position to determine which will be best for you.

Because of my health problems, my surgeon said he wouldn't do the lap band. The RNY was better for me. I am now off of insulin and most of my other meds have been cut in half.

Default Lap Band or gastric?

If you are a snacker, get the bypass. If you eat chips, ice cream, sweets, get the bypass. You can trick the lap band. You can get milk shakes down, ice cream and eat small amounts of junk. Bypass, you will quickly learn not happening.

I started with lap band and went to bypass after talking to my dietician. Yes, more things can happen, but, if you actually can stick to your new lifestyle it is less likely that things will happen. If you mess with the programs you will have problems, i.e. ripped stiches, strethed pouch, weight regain.

Also, having something implanted bugged me and having to get it adjusted constantly. You are alot more hands on with your doc.

I haven't had it done yet, it am nervous as all heck, still decided on bypass though, our program has a zero % mortality rate.
