Default big decision

I am going to have weight loss surgery but cannot decide if I want to have lap band or gastric bypass. Anyone out there give me your feedback.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I opted gastric...the weight loss statistics were better...and FASTER!!! Also, I couldn't see facing a lifetime of adjustments, or face the foreign object in my body thing....

kath's 2 cents on the matter!

Hi there. I opted for the gastric also. Its a more serious surgery however the the benefits out weighed the lap for me.

Well, it was a pretty easy decision for me - my insurance only covers lap band if you are 18, 19 or 20, and I'm 51 so they will ONLY cover RNY.

Also, the statistics for weight loss and keeping it off are better with surgery and also less complications.

And I couldn't *stomach*having a piece of plastic like that in me. The idea kinda grossed me out.

So for me, it was an easy (non) decision.

Now I only have to decide to actually go through with it. LOL

I went in to see the surgeon with the idea in mind that I wanted the lap bad...until they started talking and showing statistics. That is when I changed my mind and went the route of RNY. Best dang decision that I could have ever made!!!

I second everything Kath says. I too had gastric bypass. I orignially thought the band but did the research and opted for bypass. I am thrilled to pieces with my decision.
Best of luck with your decision.

I also went in with the idea of getting the lap banding done, but after much research I decided to opt for Gastric Bypass and am so happy I did. You must do alot of research on both surgeries and come to your final decision on your own and feel very comfortable with your decision. I know it's a hard decision but weigh out your options. Sit and make a list of pros and cons that come from each type of surgery. For myself I decided I didn't want to have to go back and forth having my port filled.
Also, I didn't like having something foreign put in my body. Good luck with your decision sweetie, I know it's a hard decision. Investigate, talk with people who have had both surgeries done--I think because I had alot of weight to lose it I decided at age 57 I wanted it to come off fast, and I can honestly say not a day goes by that I don't thank the good Lord for allowing me to go through this surgery. I feel so good now. Let us know your decision or if we can answer any other questions for you. Good Luck.

Based on what I learned about the lap band, I knew I'd cheat. I felt the more drastic responses to eating the "wrong foods" was best for helping me learn to say no!

Im 4 mos out this week, no regrets.

I looked into both - not sure if the insurance would have paid for the lap band - I was concerned that I would find a way to cheat the band - I don't have that option with the RNY

i opted gastric bypass.
I started my journey wanting the lap band.
BUT at the HIGH bmi i had my surgeon
said i wouldnt most probably get
under 200 lbs. AND based on that
i knew i wouldnt be happy.

SO for me gastric bypass was my
choice and had it done 2.5 years ago.
I am down 143 lbs and happy now!

i am sizes smaller then when i was in high school
right now and thats totally amazin
