Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Welcome, I also have not had my surgery but am scheduled for RNY on August 3. I originally thought I wanted the band but after the surgeons seminar decided that I needed the bypass instead to be successful.

Good luck with your decision, research and your surgery. You came to the right place. There is a wealth of real-life experience here that your surgeon him/herself most likely can't give you.

Why I choose RNY as suppose to Lap Band. I LOVE SUGAR/CARBS. The RNY stops me from over loading. Dumping is a great deterrent.

I had RNY, and a year before mw my best friend has the lap band, She lost about 60 lbs in the first few months but then put it all back on plus some. RNY to me was the best option. I am restricted in what i consume. I have lost 70+ pounds in 4 months! I am glad I did RNY and not lap band!

The resolution rate (not cure, mind you, if you regain, diabetes can come back) for bypass is much higher than band--the former 80-90%, the latter just above 50%. Also, it resolves much faster with bypass than band--with the band, you have to wait until you lose sufficient weight, but with bypass, you can come off most, if not all, of your medications within a month or so.
Surgeons tend to say "cure", by the way, but endocrinologist/diabetologists apply the term "resolution" because the underlying genetic tendency towards diabetes will never change, and weight regain can and do result in relapse of diabetes.

As for the vitamins and minerals, yes, you need to supplement for the rest of your life due to your reduced intake.

How long at which food stages depends on the surgeon, so you need to confirm your surgeon's food stage schedule.

Read through everything on this board, just about all questions have been asked and answered, though they may be scattered all over the place.
Read read read, knowledge is power.
