Hi,

Thought it might be a good idea to finally post, so here it is my story so far.

Date of original (band) surgery 15/03/2011
Date of revisional surgery 08/02/2012
Weight now 144kg or 22st 9.5lb or 317.5lb
Target weight 100kg by 24/06/2012 44kg to go

This whole thing started 2 years ago when i took my children to the local funfair the littlest one wanted to go on a huge slide and only being 1 at the time i thought it would be a good idea to run up the slide with him and then slide back down. However this proved to be one of my not so good ideas as when i got back to the bottom i thought i was gonna have a heartattack !! it took ages for me to catch my breath eventually it passed but needless to say the slide was never attempted again.

A few weeks later and im in my G.P.s office having a long conversation about weight loss and what could be done having tried most diests and a very miserable time on Xenical Orlistat he mentioned that surgery could be an option he said he would put my name forward and that i should wait to hear. I never gave it another thought but many months later a letter from Sunderland Hospital landed inviting me to a seminar, i went along to this and the surgeon droned on about the various weight loss surgerys and there intended benefits and possible complications. after 2 hrs i decided the Gastric Band was the one for me and i out my name down and went on the list, a million appointments ensued with various targets to meet and somehow i did it and on the 15th march 2011 in went the band.

It was allllll good BOOM 3 stone melted away i felt great and then all of a sudden STOPPPPP no more weight loss just lots of sickness i out all of this down to i must be eating the wrong things i went back to the dietician and changed the diet but no the sickness continued WTF !! eventually after a camera down the throat and an X-ray while swallowing barium showed reduced motility the end result being the band was going to have to come out, i told the surgeon there was no way this was happening without an alternative, he eventually agreed to remove the band and convert it to bypass which i should have probably chosen from the beginning well the band has now been out for 2 days and the bypass has been done im feeling a bit rough suprisingly very little pain i got out of hospital this morning i'll keep everyone updated with how it all goes hopefully i'll be skinny by the time my 30th birthday comes in June

Peace

Neil

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Welcome, Neil! You aren't the only one here who has had a revision. While not really common, it's by no means rare. I hope all goes well for you!

We have several folks here from the UK, so you aren't alone over there. I'm sure some of them will stop in and introduce themselves.

This is probably the best, most supportive and helpful resource you will find online for WLS (weight loss surgery). Members range from old veterans such as myself to newbies just starting the approval process. Search the archives and you'll find more good stuff there than you ever imagined you needed to know! Be especially sure to check out the Recipes sub-forum. No more steak and kidney pie in suet pudding for you (or me either! ), but there are over 500 tested and WLS-friendly recipes there (and counting!)

Good luck on this incredible journey you've started! It's not easy, but it sure is worth it!! Let us know if we can help, or if you want to post your triumphs along the way.

Brave Neil! One out and then Roux N Y! You will do great I'm sure of it. There were a couple of folks in our pre-surgery classes who had had lap bands which didn't work out for them. That was one of the deciding factors in my choosing RNY as well.

I agree with the Perfesser above, this is the best forum I've found. I've sent the link into my weight loss clinic for distribution to the next support group meeting.

Good luck!
