This is a bone china plate, adequate for formal dinners,
not a baby dish, no water is necessary, only
one minute preheating in the microwave oven, remains still hot
after 30 minutes -your hand will not withstand the heat- however you can handle it safely with your bare hands by the rim which does not get hot. No dangerous liquids or melting substances inside, absolutely safe (I use those plates everyday). The use of a table cloth or individual table cloth is recommended since the base gets also hot. Google "bariatric plate" or "WLS plate" "HotSmart" is the manufacturer; the plate is patented and only available in "Amazon.com"
