Red face iron

Ok, I'm 7 weeks post op, and I was feeling realy crappy, tired and etc...
Well, I buckled down and started taking my iron supplements again, they really make me sick to my stomach, but they have really upped my energy level. They still make my stomach upset but I guess it's the price you pay. All of the vitamins make my stomach upset throughout the day. I hope over time that will change. I guess I have been a little anemic, and I also noticed that during my period I am completely spent, extremely and easily fatigued. The second I went back on the iron I started feeling better.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Do you take them on an empty pouch, if so try taking them after you have eaten something, maybe they won't upset.

Some people get upset stomachs from vitamin tablets with high B vitamins or a B supplement tablet by itself. Do not take calcium and your iron together, as they won't work well that way. I use a liquid vitamin that bypasses the digestive tract. This may avoid your upset stomach. It also has a digestive aid--aloe vera included in it. One ounce per day has everything exept your calcium citrate and the extra iron you currently take. My profile page has data on this liquid.

Awww(((((HUGS))))))

Have you tried out chewabale types rather than regular pills? Your pouch may be able to deal with them better.
There are liuqids and spray types as well, if pill forms upset your pouch. ragdolldude has a liquid type up in the Vendors section of Buy, Sell and Exchange forum.
Also, unless your surgeon is very specific about which brand to take, try out a few brands and see if there's any that you do better with. This site has an eStore (the link is in the navigation bar up above) that is sponsored by BariatricsAdvantage so check that out if you already haven't (you need to set up an individual account for the eStore to order).

Good luck in your quest.

Iron is famous for making us feel bad. However we have to have it. I was put on iron supplements right after surgery because I was anemic. I found if I took it with some sort of food it really helped with the upset stomach and even the constipation.

I have yet to take iron....I feel fantastic and my 6 months labs were great...my surgeon said there's no need to take it, as my levels are good....

Sorry it makes you feel bad, but good...if that makes sense...what about b12? I know a shortage there can really make you feel drained!

I wanted my surgeon to recommend B12 injections but he said to do the sublingual, I hate them and they take forever to disolve, I think they need to come up with an all inclusive vitamin supplement. Maybe with a time released portion of it. Gastric Bypass isn't really that new and I'm surprised someone hasn't capitalized on that...

Time release actually doen't work for bypass patients because time release pills are meant to stay in your stomach and slowly dissolve while in the normal size stomach. The way they are, they will be passed through quickly through your pouch and go through your system before it's dissolved enough to be absorbed. ODs (oral dissolvant types) are better, as they are readily absorbed.
There are nasal VB12 sprays, Nascobal, I think the name is, which is another option.
