Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I know we are to take the chewable vitamins, but do the pill forms work at all? Pre op I was on several different vitamins such as Zinc for my carpal tunnel. If I take it now will my body absord it? Should I take it twice a day to help ensure better absorption? Also, my surgeon's dietician told me not to worry about the debate on vitamin C and just to take the Caltrate. But I hear we don't absorb the vitamin in that one. Why would my dietician tell me not to worry about it? Once and for all is Caltrate effective after WLS or not?

| Super Moderator | The view on vitamins seem to be changing, so if your dietician said it's fine, then don't worry about it. I take it your dietician works in tandem with your surgeon, so s/he'd be expereiced in that area, and is most likely speaking from experience. As for pills, basically, you will be able to absorb the same as pre op. so long as they are not time release types. Your surgeon knows best, and will give you instructions that worked best with his patients so it's best to stick to that, and not scout around much. (((((HUGS)))))

| Super Moderator | KB, which dr? Your PCP or your surgeon? If it's your surgeon s/he knows what s/he's doing, so I'd say it's fine, but if you have doubts, ask. If it's your PCP, then s/he may not be aware that time releases may not be absorbed as much as it normally is, so you should discuss this with her/him.
