Default Question for doc on vitamins

I know we are to take the chewable vitamins, but do the pill forms work at all? Pre op I was on several different vitamins such as Zinc for my carpal tunnel. If I take it now will my body absord it? Should I take it twice a day to help ensure better absorption?
Also, my surgeon's dietician told me not to worry about the debate on vitamin C and just to take the Caltrate. But I hear we don't absorb the vitamin in that one. Why would my dietician tell me not to worry about it? Once and for all is Caltrate effective after WLS or not?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

The view on vitamins seem to be changing, so if your dietician said it's fine, then don't worry about it. I take it your dietician works in tandem with your surgeon, so s/he'd be expereiced in that area, and is most likely speaking from experience.
As for pills, basically, you will be able to absorb the same as pre op. so long as they are not time release types. Your surgeon knows best, and will give you instructions that worked best with his patients so it's best to stick to that, and not scout around much.

KB, which dr? Your PCP or your surgeon? If it's your surgeon s/he knows what s/he's doing, so I'd say it's fine, but if you have doubts, ask. If it's your PCP, then s/he may not be aware that time releases may not be absorbed as much as it normally is, so you should discuss this with her/him.

Thanks doc- it is my surgeon....BUT I am not sure this is what he prescribed or rather the generic my insurance gave me....so I need to call. The pill is quite large and when I asked the pharmacy since I knew I could not swallow it as I started taking it 2 days after surgery, they told me I could open it and just take the contents. I am wondering if maybe I got the time released generic instead of just regular on accident. Eiher way I will check, thanks!
