|  Stop Vitamins before surgery?
First, let me say I am not advising anyone to do or not do this. My surgeon said to D/C my multi-vitamin 2 weeks before surgery for the hernia. I thought that was odd. Ok to keep up the calcium, hormones and Zyrtec. I doubt the 2 week vacation will hurt anything long term but wondered if anyone else had been told this ~~~

Nope- I asked my surgeon and they told me to keep taking my mulit and calcium. They DID say not to take vitamin C supplements though.....

OK IGNORE ME! What I meant was Vitamin E!
They don't want you taking it 2 weeks prior since it can increase bleeding.

I just had surgery on the 16th for a kink in my bowel and I had to stop ALL medications a week before surgery.I did not even think to ask why!!

It is the Vitamin E. Its a blood thinner. Even taken in multi vitimans they are a no no when undergoing any surgery. Now I will say some surgeons dont mention this. I think acutally they forget alot of the times. Then right before the surgery somone will ask you if you have taken in the last few days. The vitamin E is a red flag and so is the multivitamin. They will then alert the physican and it will be his choice to go ahead with it or not. Now it will depend on the surgery also. Somthing like ear tubes its not a big deal. Any thing that requires cutting yes it is a big deal. I would suggest to anyone ask there physican and do as they say. Many of them have someone that gives you a list of what to do an not to do.
