| Questions re: Sugars, fats, carbs, chol, etc...
Alright. I had gastric bypass surgery in April and am down 76 pounds! Now, I'm wondering if someone can tell me the limit of sugars, fats, carbs, cholesterol, etc. I am suppose to be limited to in a day. We are starting to prepare new recipes and I've looked through all of my post-op paperwork and can't find limits anywhere. Thanks!

yes, definitely talk with YOUR nutritionist about this..plus every single post op is different in what they can tolerate, plus it changes the further you get out. You may tolerate more or less as time goes on.

| You know, it's funny but I never thought about it too much. I stuck with lean proteins, fat free milk products, little or no marg or light mayo, and avoided white carbs like breads, pasta, most rice, etc. As little as we eat, especially early out, it didn't seem important to me~~~ I used sparkpeople.com and after keying in my info and then tracking my intake on there, it tells you your "goal" amount and your actual intake. Again, your doc or nut will tell you specific to your health needs.

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Coongratulations on joining the Losers' Bench and on your wonderful weight loss.
(((((HUGS))))) May your journey go well.
This Q should be asked to your surgeon or nut.
However, a general guideline.
First off, you are 2 months out of surgery. Where on the food stage are you? Soft foods or back up to regular foods?
The first year, your POUCH is going to make the rules, not you Everyone will tell this.
You very well may find that your pouch will reject what your brain thinks is good, so be prepared for that. Once you get past the first year, and your pouch is more adjusted, your food range will expand. So, especially for the first year, it's going to be about trial and error, and the number for sugars, fats, carbs and cholestrols are going to be moot.
So, the FIRST thing you need to stick to, is the 60g (or whatever number YOUR surgeon/nut gave you) protein per day, and the 64oz (or whatever number YOUR surgeon nut/gave you) water per day. Protein first, veggies next, and carbs if you still have some room. If you stuck to this, you WILL NOT be able to get in enough other stuff that you need to worry about exceeding the various limits for various nutrients.
Check your papers for the volume for each sitting--how many cups total--should be less than 1 cup and stay that way for a while, and gradually increase over the first year.
Unless you are eating high calorie slider foods, which you should avoid like death anyway--with the limited amount per sitting, there is NO WAY you will hit the upper limits of whatever to stay healthy. You WON'T be able to eat more over 1000 kcals at your present stage, if you are sticking to the basic rules. The amount will slowly increase over the months, and past the first year, it should go up to 1200-1400 kcals for women, and up to 1600-1800 for men, depending on your daily activity and stature(height).
The finer points, talk with your nutritionist, and also, DON'T forget all these vitamins and supplements.

I stick with the sugar free, fat free foods. If anything has a double digit I won't even touch it...and of course my portion control is way down. So that is a good thing as it was not before surgery...

| try to not be completely fat free - our bodies need some heart heathy fats. i cook a lot with olive oil. also do eat broiled or grilled steak and ground round. sometimes when an item is fat free it is higher in carbs too. (i am a carb freak - watch my carbs very closely) i generally will keep carbs under 30 net and calories around 800 per day. i honestly don't count anything else

| I keep my carbs to 30 g or less and make sure I get at least 20 g of fats daily. My calories hover around 700, and I avoid sugar, pasta, rice, breads, etc., like the plague. I figure I can only fit in small amounts of food, and I will only eat healthy stuff. Eat to live, not live to eat.
