5000 mcg once daily should do whatever it is that it's going to do. Start any time, but if the purpose of this is to promote regrowth of your hair, and you aren't losing it yet, what's it going to do in the meantime?
Not everyone agrees that it works. I used it, my hair grew back. Did it make it come back faster? I haven't done any comparison testing to find out, so I have no idea. Everyone who lost hair got it back, whether or not they used biotin.
