| When protein tastes vile This morning something came into mind that I wanted to share with you..... One of my nurses and I were talking about the protein intake and how important it is and how things work and how most the protein drinks are disgusting in taste, and she said to me; "when you are sick you take medicine prescribed don't you? You don't question it, or put it aside and say you don't like the taste of it, you TAKE IT because it is necessary for your better health and makes you feel better! Protein is the same- whether you like it or not, you NEED it for your better health, much like it was a prescribed medication you simply must take it no matter what it tastes like- for your health." I started to drink more protein drinks after that talk realizing that my protein drinks whether it tastes good or not shouldn't be missed, the fact of the matter is that I NEED it and I MUST have it. I can tolerate it much better now seriously. Its a frame of mind, just like all the rest of this whole ordeal we go through with the surgery and stuff we encounter, we have to alter our old thoughts into new thoughts to be able to get on track with all this new changes, and sometimes changing can be very difficult because we have lived so long accepting and doing the very things that worked against us. You are heading into new territory now and you need to start working on changing those old thoughts into new motivational thoughts. Yep my protein drinks suck I haven't found one yet that I can say I like the taste of and I was seriously falling behind on my protein intake and my health was showing signs of that neglect, but I need to have it and I will do my best to have it as prescribed ............for my better health. Best wishes!

I have copied this post from where it was originally posted, because this is a great perspective when dealing with the taste of protein issue.
Just changing one's perspective may help give you a boost in the direction you need
Thanks for the post, RC |

| I normally go between three different types of protein mix; 1. chocolate flavor Whey product by BIOCHEM Sports that is wheat & Gluten free and has 20 g of protein per serving. I mix it with milk or hot cream of wheat cereal, its not too bad like that, but still has an after taste, alot better then other chocolate products I tried. 2. unflavored Whey protein by Jarrow Formulas is 18 g protein can be mixed with different foods and liquids, you still get an aftertaste but its not too bad. 3. Health Wise Nutritional Supplement Protein drink in various flavors, ready-mix plastic bottle all I have to do is add water to it and shake and its ready to drink. I use it for on the go drinking, when on road trips, or at my job during breaks, its easy to add cold water to it and shake and drink, don't have to measure anything out. Its only 15 g of protein per serving. I buy it from my weight management consultants that I check in with. Not sure where they buy it from. They have several flavors to choose from but I find that I can tolerate the Lemon Razy and Wild berry and Raspberry tea flavors more then the other flavors they have.

Good girl for sharing this with us! I think it's great to get that perspective out there...Food is fuel, remember! and for =US= it's pretty much 'medicine' when it comes to protein intake!
I love it!

THANK YOU for sharing this post. I really have a hard time getting my protein grams in for the same reason. The real protein is hard for me to digest so I'm mostly vegetarian, and the protein drinks just don't taste that good. But at one year out I noticed my hair was thinning a little and my surgeon said :Get More Protein In Your Diet. So I'm holding my nose and slamming down two drinks a day, but its an effort. I noticed the Slim 4 Life protein drinks are really good - you just have to drink 4 of them a day instead of 2 (each one has about 15 g Protein). You might try those.

Hi, there are so many protein flavors out there and mine change all the time, I really loved the syntrax nectars especially the choc truffle, wellI have now gone to the champion whey stack, love the tropical sunrise mixes great with water I usually add a sugar free orange punch little straw but they also have the regular choc and another one of my favorite is coca mocachino, it's better than starbucks! Of course I add to it, some de cafe folger coffe crystals, sugar free vanilla or regular nestle coffee creamer and ice, and you can use either milk or water this seem to mix better than the nectar and don't get frother.
Good luck!
Judy

I've found that unflavored protein in crystal light is a treat instead of plain water sometimes.
