Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Ok i feel stupid....... Question 1: How much carbs can we have a day, to be safe? Question 2: How much Fat, and how do we count the fats, there are 3 differant kinds? Example: From Reeses snaksters 100 cals 0 grams trans fat, packs..... Total Fat 4g......6% Saturated fat 2.5g 13% Trans Fat 0g Then total Carbs 14g...........5% Sugars 9g Protein 2g Thanks.......I just forgot, and i cant find where i had it written down...........My dr, did say 10g sugar......... And i'm sure he said per food item, not meal............ |

| Super Moderator | Some basics about nutrition. At this stage (less than a year out) the total cals you are able to get in probably is around 1000 or so. (Please note, I said you are able to get in, not, you should get in, there's a difference here.) You need to get your protein in first, and that should be 60-80 grams, depending on what your surgeon says. This will take up 240-320 kcal of the total. Then, you should try to get veggies in, as they are rich in vitamins, and some kinds of minerals. Carbs come after that, but all in all, you probably will end up getting around 100g carbs, which actually isn't that bad. (Though a lot of people will say, avoid carbs, you do need carbs for the brain cells, so cutting them off totally is not good. However, you need to cut out as much processed carbs as you can--that is, cut out as much refined sugar, or things that include refined sugar, as you can, and get the carbs through complex carbs--the ones that are called good carbs.) As for fat, avoid trans fats as much as you can, but the amount of fats to take, is the total, and not broken down. With a 1000 kcal well balanced intake, fat will probably be around 25g. I wrote this article for maintenance diet balance, but How Many Calories Do I Need? may provide you with some info and understanding of balancing out your nutrition. Hope this helps.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | My Doctor said....less than 7g per meal. I just talked to Lisa yesterday about carbs and she said she does 21g or less in carbs a day. I've been reading about calories for WLS patients...and have heard less than 1200 calories a day. REGARDLESS: I still believe if you focus on the basics... getting in your protein, water, vitamins, & excercise.... You should be good...and continue to loose. I'm struggling right now - coming off of the holiday. I'm worried about the "amount" of food I'm able to eat. Trying the "back away from the table" effect! LOL. Late last night I was up...and got hungry...and decided to have a couple spoons of peanut butter. I was surprised how much that filled me up.... This will be something I'll turn to in the future... Have you tried this?? It's good for the sweet/salty! Hope this helps....

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | JUST TO CLARIFY...what i follow in CARBS is not the number by my surgeon i follow more the ATKINS inductions rules when it comes to my carbs. IT works best for me because the carbs are my real danger and dont fill me and then cause the need for more eating..... i keep them usually not higher then 30 and less when im striving to loose weight. I havent been good with this over the last few months but getting on track this week...causei know i have to I pulled out my sureons papers and they want 100 grams of carbohydrate 20 - 30 percent of your total caloric intake. and 70 - 80 grams of protein and supposed to always eat protein food first to avoid nutritional defiencies. WHEN it comes to sugar if an item is more then 10 i wont touch when striving to loose weight. BUT i also take into account the sugar alcohol line as well on the label when an item has that and sugar.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Thanks guys that helps alot,,,,,,I know my cal have been at the 900 range, and i have noticed everything has a ton of carbs, yesterday, i had like with everthing i ate, milk, i had like 90ish carbs the whole day.......And i had 100 in protien, with my shake of course.......... If i read and count, it makes me mad and i get wizzed off and say it's to much trouble.......That has been one of my big down falls, when diteing, and failled...... So for 1 week i want to count and see what i do, then i'm going to leave the counting alone, and just watch what i do from there.......... So i guess i done good, and Wes said i have been doing good all lone i just cant see it..........Wes said i will make good choices, and he believes in me........ But i thnik we all are doing great, or we whouldnt be loosing weight...........You know we can have this surgery, and still eat like pigs and NOT loose a oz, so we are doing something right............We all have lost the weight............. I know a girl had it WLS done in 01/02 she lost 98lbs (the MAIN reason she had it done was she wantd WES she thought she could get him if she lost the weight. Wes said not a chance with or without the weight.) went back to being a pig, and she is back up to the size she was and then some (500ish) i see her in walmart, in the ele buggies.........She will look at me and think do i know her, and she will keep going.............. So that can give ya something to think about....To make it work, you have to watch, and get off your butt. And have done it for the right reason............ |

| Super Moderator | If you want to keep count, if you haven't tried already, utilize an online site. Watching is easy, but counting can be a chore, so make the right choices, then leave the counting up to something like FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal. That should make things a bit easier.

| I believe everyone gave you some great advice. I, to, do alot of the atkins type, watching of the carbs. I don't each much of the white things these days. lol For example, last night we had spaghetti last night for supper, and I did not have any noodles with it. Just the sauce made with turkey hamburger. I LOVED IT. I also, did not have any of the bicuits I made either. So, in a nutshell, I had my turkey sauce, lol, my collard greens with a little pepper and spray butter on them, and a half an apple. That was just about perfect for me, and filled me right up. That isn't the way I eat sometimes, but 95% of the time I do. This morning, I had almost all of my chicken breast, a small pile of cherry tomatoes, and about almost a quaurter cup of rasberries with splenda on them. Most of the time, I do get part of my calcium in, in the morning to, such as a cheese stick or skim milk. YUMMY! As you can tell, I would rather eat supper food for breakfast. LOL I can't seem to do the real breakfast food, and never liked it much. I agree with the girls, with the fact that as long as you get in your protein first, then veggies, then your fruit. I firmly practice that daily. YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB, BECCA! mike |
