Important Warning:
Metformin may rarely cause a serious, life-threatening condition called lactic acidosis. Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had a heart attack; stroke; high blood pressure; diabetic ketoacidosis (blood sugar that is high enough to cause severe symptoms and requires emergency medical treatment) or coma;
surgery to remove part of your small intestine; anemia (not enough red blood cells), or heart, kidney, lung, or liver disease.
Tell your doctor if you have recently had any of the following conditions, or if you develop them during treatment: serious infection; severe diarrhea, vomiting, or fever; or if you drink much less fluid than usual for any reason. You may have to stop taking metformin until you recover.
How should this medicine be used?
Metformin comes as a tablet and an extended-release (long-acting) tablet to take by mouth. The regular tablet is usually taken with meals two or three times a day.
The extended-release tablet is usually taken once daily with the evening meal.
So my question to you is: are you on the extended release because they don't work right with bypass patients. Check with your PCP to see if you should still be on it, if he says yes, then it looks like you need to take it 3 times a day at meal time. Your Synthroid needs to be taken on an empty stomach, 4 hours away from any calcium or iron supplements, so maybe first thing in the morning. Your prenatal vits probably have Iron so why are you taking an additional Iron? Vitamins are best taken with meals. Iron by itself should be taken on an empty stomach with something acidic to help break it down (OJ is a good choice). Calcium and Iron can't be taken together either. So you don't want to take your calcium with your vitamins or your extra Iron. Take your calciums when you're doing your water. Two B12? I've been taking one B12 and my B12 levels have been consistanly high. You can take B12 anytime, I take mine with my water and calcium.
