| Protien Bars- what do you eat?
I have been eyeing up protien bars when in the market. Do you eat them? If so what kind? I am trying to limit the sugar content but find that hard to do.

As well as sugar, watch out for fat contents, too.

My surgeon, his nurses and nutritionist told me "NO" to protein bars. No exceptions.
Protein bars are a short cut to getting in proteins. Part of our problem pre op is we took short cuts. We ate the wrong things to fill us up (carbs) which had us hungry again too soon and provided little benefit, we ate convenience food that had more carbs and sugars and salts than we needed, we were in a rush when we ate so we ate more, and faster.
We live in a society of fast and convenience. As a result we get immediate satisfaction but loose long term benefits because of it.
My surgeon also had his patients off protein shakes after 2 weeks post op. He wanted us to get our proteins naturally by eating solids such as from fish or meats and to learn to eat properly (slowly with small bites).
This is the time to start a positive change to your lifestyle. The McDonald's drive through to satisfy an immediate hunger is no longer an option. The same thing with the convenience of grabbing a protein bar instead of sitting down to eat a real meal and getting your proteins from good food you prepared rather than a mass produced snack food with probably more counter productive ingredients than value, including loosing out on the exercise of eating a meal as opposed to snacking on a convenience snack.
To have one or two of these protein bars in your car in the event you are travelling and not near anyplace to get in your nutrition or eat a meal is ok, so long as it is for those very rare emergencies

I use the myoplex chocolate mint protein bars especially when I am short on protein. I am not an egg eater so sometimes have one for breakfast as they have 25 grams of protein.

My surgeon... better known as "he who approves of nothing"... has approved the Pure Protein Bars. I keep one in my desk at work and one in my purse. I think the chocolate ones taste good. I like to eat one on the way to the gym for a boost, or even to squash that "candy bar" urge. Walmart carries these, and they're very reasonable.

Another vote here for the Pure Protein. Vey low in sugar and fat, long on taste, 20g protein. Peanut loves the Chocolate Deluxe. We typically buy out the store when we stock up!

I like Atkins Day Break, Chocolate Chip Crisp Bar. 10 grams protein, 0 sugar, 1 gram sugar alcohols, only 3 grams net carbs 140 calories. These bars come in several flavors. I buy the Atkins Day Break ones, they also come in Atkins Advantage which are bigger and have more protein and more calories. The bigger ones (Atkins Advantage) have 200 calories, 17 grams protein, 1 gram sugar, 2 grams sugar alcohol, 3 grams net carbs. These also come in several flavors.

I agree with Pure Protein. I eat 1/2 mid-morning and half mid-afternoon. Love the Chocolate Deluxe...just tried the Peanut Butter Caramel Surprise...not bad.
