I talked to my surgeon today about hair loss. He said that it is very normal and a reaction to the surgery as well as the malobsobtion. He said to take fish oil 3x a day as well as a B complex and biotin and zinc everyday. He also told me to incoorperate 1 tsp of olive oil into my eating (weather cooking with it or eating it on a salad) I knew about the vitamins but had never heard of the olive oil before. I just thought I would share this info with you all as I know this is a huge problem after RNY. Please consult your surgeons before starting any of these things though!

Whats a B complex? I take B1..does that count?

A B complex is a combination of B vitamins in one pill. You can get them at walmart for like $5 for a lot of them.

Most bariatric multivitamins contain B complexes, actually, so check the labels of the multivitamins that you are taking.

I lost about 75% of my hair in June and July. Per doctors instructions started with the Biotin and the special shampoo, my hair is growing in all over and I am grateful.

As a test my oldest son started the shampoo and the biotin and one month out his bald spot has new growth. Are you thinking what we are thinking, there is a cure for baldness that is right under our nose and is working. Will keep you updated but we are excited about that shiny spot showing new hair.

You can get biotin at walmart relatively cheap.

Do you really lose that much hair? I have really long hair that has been thinning out since I became a diabetic but I am scared whitless.. that I am going to lose even more then that. I really am.
