Question Protein powder vs. pre-made shakes

I’ve been reading a lot of threads on Protein shakes. I see that a lot of people are using the protein mixes. I have been drinking the ready-made protein drinks. I am absolutely in love with EAS Myoplex Vanilla Cream. It has 25g of protein and tastes great!

Is it just personal preference or is there an added benefit to drinking the powder mixes? I tried a sample of the Unjury powder that my Nutritionist gave me. I mixed it in a smoothie but couldn’t finish it. So I am hoping to stick with Myoplex post-op unless there is a compelling reason to try more of the powders.

Thoughts?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Yolie, I hate the powdered protein mixes. I have tried them all.
I agree with you. the EAS is the best, a little spendy but well worth it. My nut says they are good and recommends them. It is all personal preference. Plus you get all that protein in one drink.
since I hate eating breakfast and never have time,I have one every morning.

Thanks Kathy. The pre-made drinks are certainly convenient. I throw one or two in my bag and have them throughout the day. If I had to be bothered with mixing and trying to get that chalky stuff down I know I would fail miserably! LOL

If I am right you havn't had surgery yet .. right? Your taste could change after surgery. Some people find this after they buy a bunch of protein before surgery then find they don't like it after. Now I can drink some shakes that I could not stand after surgery so I guess after a while your taste buds settle down but it takes a while. Maybe you will be one that still loves the same shake. It will make it so much easier. If I am wrong and you have had your surgery please over look this old lady. lol

Hi DixieLadyBug - And yes, you are right. I have not had surgery yet...I don't even have a date...but that's another story! I'm waiting on approval.
I never thought that my taste buds may change. And you know what, my plan was that once I get the call regarding my surgery date, to go out and buy a ton of the Myoplex. Now I'm rethinking that...LOL
Thanks for your input doll!

I like the EAS also. I put it in the freezer and drank it just before it froze. It was like an ice cream treat for me. I do not like the powder except in sugar free pudding.

Hi,
I was using a powder mix and was pretty happy with it... But than a friend told me about Premire Protein Chocolate, pre made... omg, I'm in love with it... 30 grams of protein and is really thick... They only sell it at Costco or Sams Club... you can also buy it on the net... I'm gonna try and freeze it a bite, but its already like drinking pudding :-)

Hey Yolie and others awaiting surgery,
I was a big fan of the EAS brand of shakes before my surgery but had a hard time with them afterwords. I started making my own protein mixes after tweaking a recipe that Pefesser had posted. The main reason I went that way is because I can make any flavor mixture I want, It's quite a bit cheaper and this way I know everything that goes into it. Here's the link to the original recipe post for you. http://www.renewedreflections.com/fo...kfast-mix.html

It says breakfast but I use it for Breakfast and After the gym to get the extra protein boost we need to build healthy lean muscle. oh, it is pretty good chocolate flavored with a little powdered peanut butter too!! Best of luck with your surgery and God Bless!!
