Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I've always used EAS, chocolate and vanilla. I also like nectar brand, the fuzzy navel flavor.
Be creative, buy some sugar free syrups and concoct your own drink. I use chocolate powder and add a bit of instant decaf coffee for a mocha flavor. Or vanilla powder with SF raspberry syrup....

I read your other post regarding how to help your wife through this process. She is a lucky woman indeed! Be there, encourage her, don't tempt her with food you know she can't have. Food and cooking can still mean *love*, you're still going through the process and as others have said just because it doesn't have tons of fat and carbs doesn't mean you haven't put your heart into the meal.

There's alot of good info on the web, one of my favorites is theworldaccordingtoeggface. She's had WLS and this is her blog. She has alot of great recipes and good advice.

Good Luck, I hope you stick around and keep us up to date. We're a pretty good bunch and have tons of advice if you want it

I've moved this here Vitamins and Nutrition - Weight Loss Surgery Forums - RenewedReflections .
Check out the threads in the index.
Also, if you dump protein powder in/on something warm/hot, it will clump up because the nature of protein is to clump up with heat, unless the protein powder is pre-processed in soem way to prevent this. You need to mix it thoroughly while the medium--water, milk, whatever--is still cool and keep mixing while heating.

You might want to check out the Smoothie Bible to see if you can get some ideas on making your own.

I've had a hard time finding a protein supplement that I can tolerate since I am so lactose intolerant. None of the powders I used pre-op are tolerated because of the lactose. I've tried some fruit flavoured protein supplements that mix with water that I bought from the surgeon's office. So far that's been good and they have 15g of protein. I tried the Isopure powder mango peach flavour - ugh. I know a lot of people like that stuff but it makes me gag. Must be a texture thing. I found some protein RTD stuff at GNC that has 25g of protein (lactose free) and for now that's what I'm doing. I hope I'll be able to place an order for some samples of Syntrax Nectar - I've heard lots of good things about that and it's lactose free. I've also thought of trying the unflavoured protein powder - I've heard it's tasteless - in other foods such as broths and soups. I'm scared to buy a lot yet until I know what will work for me, yanno?

I had to take some of it before pre-op and I haven't made it since surgery but it was really yummy. It is just the vanilla by Bariatric Advantage. It really whips up to like marshmellow fluffiness without having that powder texture. Putting a banana in it I really liked! I will look forward to getting back to it....slowly....

I gagged on all the protein powders - couldn't find one I could tolerate. Fortunately my surgeon had the following as a way to make a "chocolate shake" that was high in protein without using the powders:

Carnation instant breakfast package
4 oz of skim milk
extra cocoa powder (makes it more chocalatey and it has protein)
powdered milk (bumps the protein again, without the fat)
ice cubes
whirl it in the blender until the ice cubes are all chopped up

NQ Barbie, that sounds great! I'd have to check the Carnation Instant Breakfast for lactose since I'm so intolerant. If it's ok then I'm definitely going to try it.

I bet you could make it with soy milk and it would be just as great. I don't know how you'd react to the powdered milk - but it didn't bother me and I'm somewhat lactose intolerant now. I get flat out sick from milk, pudding and yogurt make me queesy, soft cheeses and solids are OK for me.

I bought some Whey Isolate Protein Powder from GNC recently. The flavor is Cookies and Cream. I mixed it with some Light Vanilla Soy Milk and it tasted great. I highly recommend it!
