Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

get yourself an adult vitamin. Centrum silver is a good one. Yes you should have a seperate b12 either a sublingual or in a shot. as a wls post op you can not absorb them in any other form. and the D needs to be D3 and in a dry form.

My vits are :
Morning- multi and pepcid
Mid afternoon- iron and vit C
dinner time- calcium
bedtime- mutli and pepcid
D3 3Xs a week in morning.
B12 once a month shot at home.

I take centrum silver.

My surgeon and bariatric nurse have advised we use Flinstone Completes and every one is doing well with them. Some doctors want you to use vitamins they actually sell in their office.. one off hand I can think of is "bariatric fusion". I think every "group" has their own preferences. You should be getting a list of what is recommended.

My bloodwork initially reported low Vit D so I took supplements. Low D seems to be amongst obese people. In the past, it just wasn't tested. Now I have lost some weight my blood work shows I no longer need the Vit D supplements.

Regarding the B 12. I didn't start taking it til I was 3 months out. THere is a reason for this with RNY patients... at that point our bodies don't process it th same way and (malabsorption I think?) so we need to supplement.

All of mine are chewable except for the Calcitrate. But there is another calicum product out. It is a powder and you can stir it into a drink and take it once a day! Once I use up the Calcitrate I bought, I am getting that.

GOOD LUCK!!

I take the Walmart generic Flintstones Complete (2 4x a day). No they don't taste the greatest but to me that's a small price to pay when you're on a tight budget. I also use a powdered form of calcium citrate and mix it with a little Powerade Zero. Because it doesn't contain vitamin D I use 2000 I.U. of Carlsen's D-drops. Vitamin D is important because it aides in the absorption of calcium.
You should take a B-12 supplement because our bodies no longer can absorb it the regular way. I take 1 mg sublingually daily of Methylcobalamin and I give myself a B-12 (Cyanocobalamin) shot once a week.
The most important thing is to follow what your surgeon wants you take. Their practice is the one that will be monitoring your levels and will know exactly what you need and should personalize a plan for you based on your blood work.
One thing I do want to mention is that my surgeon doesn't want us to keep changing brands during the period between blood work because they want as accurate information as possible as to what is or is not working for you
I hope this was helpful.
Hugs

my doc has us take flintstones for the first 6 weeks along with caltrate and something else - I have it all, just cannot remember exactly what it is. He doesn't feel the flintstones are good long term and recommends another brand.... this is from his site:

Bariatric Fusion carries a Complete Chewable Bariatric Vitamin & Mineral Supplement, which provides the highest amounts of key micronutrients vital for weight–loss surgery patients. No other supplements needed if you choose to take this product. The daily calcium and vitamin D is included. The recommended dose 1 tablet four times a day, but you may also take 2 tablets in the morning, 2 tablets in the evening. You may purchase Bariatric Fusion products

I take daily
6000 IU of D-3
1800 mg Calcium
1 mg Folic Acid
2 Flintstones Complete

And on Mondays, I take a 2000mcg B-12 strip that I found at the Vitamin Shoppe.

I find that taking the calcium in the mornings and the flintstones complete at night helps, since I was told not to take them together because they will cancel each other out or something like that. Something about the calcium and iron, I can't remember.
