Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hmmmm. MsVickie you know I dont know lol! But if you find out that it is ok go for it! My dr wanted me to find something i could mix with water as opposed to milk. I cant remember the reason why. i think it was something about a hig possibility of becoming lactose intolerant post op...

I spent so much money on protein supplements that if i could find a can for $5 as opposed to $40, I would get it! lol!

DIRECTIONS: (Shake can before each use). For adults, take one (1) scoop (approximately 20 g) as a food, blended with low fat milk, fruit or vegetable juice of your choice, or any low calorie flavoring or extract. It is also excellent when added to soup. Amino Acids (approximate values) per serving (approximately 20 g):

Yes. I have noticed yall talk about adding water. When this one said to add to juice veggie juice or soup I had to wonder if this was a good one or not. My Dr. hasnt said not to drink milk but im sure he will not allow it right away. I use Puriten Vitamins because of the price. There a very good company to buy from. As you know already Vitamin supplements are really high and the protein powders I have looked at are almost outrageous in price. I think Bigokee was asking about protien mixes and the prices of them. I hope this is a good one to use.

OK i just looked thru my papers MsVickie. And it says you can have skim milk beginning week. two HOWEVER, it says not to mix protein and calcium. As it was explained to me, since we have a malabsorption, you dont want your body to fight over what to absorb. I guess that means early out, weeks 2-5 no milk in the protein shake. I sometimes put milk in my shakes now to thicken it up. but i dont count that milk towards my calcium intake for the day. Now, this is just my dr's instructions. it seems we all have dfferent instructions. You will most probably get a list of very detailed instructions from your dr/nutritionist right before your surgery. you might be better off waiting with the shake mix. because he might tell you you need something specific etc. DOc Sanae always has the answers. I'm sure she will be into shed some light on this.

I think I will stay away from that product, for now. Will use one of these instead:

WHEY PROTEIN™ POWDER - Vanilla : Puritan's Pride

Buy GNC Pro Performance 100% Whey Protein, Banana Creme Online at drugstore.com

I hear whey protein is the way to go

be careful with that one. it has sugars. i think you have to have no carb and sugar free in the beginning. i hate to be the thorn in you guys sides. i just dont want you to dump. theres one called isopure. if you can find that, its perfect. no sugar no carb, 25g/protein per scoop and you mix it with water.

Wink Personally....

...I don't know about that particular protein powder....but I used GNC's "ISOPURE" when I first had my surgery....(2 scps for 20g of protein)...and then ISOPURE's premade fruit dring...one bottle was 40gms of protein.

That's pretty much how I got around early on....

Now, I really can't touch the stuff....I used it WAY TOO MUCH early on...and never rotated proteins...

Ok ladies and gentleman thanks for your input. It really helps. Thanks Kendra for the ( extra ) help !. If I could find one with absolutly no tatse that would be perfect ! LOL. I have just been looking around is all. The money is not really the problem. Of course when you can save it .....its always a plus ! While im on the subject I see were veggies are kinda hard to take after this surgery. How about V-8 juice? Any one ever drink that afterwards? If so how long did it take were you could consume it? I thought I might get some of these questions out of the way first.

MANY bariatric folks rave the unjury........
you might want to check at that site.
FOR the most part they all dont taste
the greatest and i find once dressed up
they are far better, weather you throw
some banana in (which is good for potassium)
or add some devinchi sugar free syrups...
or peanut butter...there all just ok.

I use the EAS carb control ready made varities
being im lazy and need to grab them fast. CANT
always pull out the blender and get fancy!

I also early out being i had a summe surgery used
NECTAR (fuzzy navel flavored ) and that i made
into a slushies form and drank it on the hot summer
days on the beach my first summer.
WAS good and mixed with the water.

GOOD LUCK and keep in mind your tastes for flavors
will be different and possibly far pickier post op!!!
good luck!
TRY to get samples from various bariatric product
sites...!!!
hugs

Isopure is one of the better tasting ones to mix with WATER and their premade is great. If you can get it on sale, even better! I mix it now with crystal light stuff.

Milk is one of those things your BODY will definitely tell ya fast! that you can't tolerate anymore. I'm an odd duck in that I tolerate milk NOW but couldn't before surgery!

ISOPURE is one that a lot of doc's tell their surgery patients to use..even GNC's body builder guys said that they sell it mainly to WLS patients..surprise!
