Question Hair loss & protein

Hi I'm a newbie here. Had my Lap-RNY on Jan 15th, 2007. I have been taking Biotin daily 1,000mcg to help with hair loss as well as trying to eat enough protein daily. I am burnt out on protein shakes & bars. In fact, I've been staring at the shake I made over an hour ago and just can't seem to want it. I still can't stomach chicken or eggs, but fish, beef and smoked salmon I can. I am concerned because I am at a point where I feel like I have to struggle to get in the protein and my hair is suffering. So I am asking advice from post-op veterans. I need to have a new plan or way to get my protein in. Any ideas???

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hi. Welcome to the boards. I wish I knew of a better way. I feel burnt out too but I just realized that i just HAVE to do it. I have to get it in my any means necessary. I am new to post op life so I dont have any creatuive suggestions, but wait til one of the old timers comes in and I am sure they'll helpus figure this one out. For now, sip that shake

PS i think the hairloss has more to do with the rapid weight loss as opposed to the protein but its just my theory...

Congrats on your weight loss and again WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME!!!!

((HUG)))
the protein is not the cause to hair comeing out.
ITS going to happen from any sort of RAPID weight loss.

We are taught to eat PROTEIN for help in healing and its
a food that is dense and fills us, holds us fuller longer
and has the nutrients we need. I know being two years
out when i eat wrong ...i eat more and can gain. BUT if i
focus with the protein rule of eating i eat less. THOSE
processed foods, carbs and sugars are dangerous and cause
I also enjoyed stallone protein puddings in banana cream flavor of course
not everyone likes them i did.....
good luck hope i helped some
hugs
hang in there ! YOU will be a big looser and all this will be worth it. HATE to say i wish for those picky fussy eating days back now that im 2 years
out!

RIGHT now your eating to survive and that feeling wont be with
you forever.....i remember the days that i was so picky, and didnt
care much for eating....it doesnt last forever so make the most of this
time for your mega weight loss months.

REMEMBER your eating and drinking more for your survival then the want and hunger those things return later down the road. TRY to fancy up the shakes, go to websites and get some more variety flavors.
I know i used a fuzzy navel flavor one that i froze as a slushy and
would enjoy my first months out.....another way to dress up boring protein shakes is useing DEVINCHI sugar free syrups concockting some new flavors might help .....
good luck!
and welcome to the boards too , i look forward to getting to know you thru your posts!

Hi Again. I've been reading up on this and I think biotin helps with regrowth, i dont think it stops the loss. I dont mean to be a dreamcrusher, i just dont want you to get your hopes up about stopping the loss. It will shed for a period regardless of what you do to try to stop it.

I used string cheese alot. I liked it. It doesnt agree with some people so I've heard. Maybe you should try some of the puddngs or even the unflavored powders which can be added to regular foods??

azarmywife...
well from my experience the biotin didnt stop me from looseing a great deal of hair ....i started it well before the surgery. BUT i personally feel
my new growth came in fast....and healthy so it was good for that.

AS for evening primrose thats normally a supplement used for mood swings
due to PMS....i dont know how well a gastric bypass patient will absorb them and there large early out they might be very scary to take. YOU dont want them stuck in your new healing opening to your pouch. I used them when on ATKINS....to help with moods for TOM.......

hope that helps!
hugs

The brand of Biotin I use is by NATURE'S WAY (1,000 mcg) once daily, sublingual. My hairdresser noticed a difference. I totally agree with Lisa. Eventually the hair loss does stop hang in there! I hope this helps....
