Default Vitamins

I have a question for all you WLS pros out there.
I have been recording what I eat every day on the Fit Day site. My doc has me taking 2 chewable flinstones vit. each day and 2 Tums.
I am missing some nutrients such as Vit. K, Folate, Zinc,
Selinium, Phosphorus and Magnesium according to the nutrition calculator.
I went to GNC and another health food store. So far the only advice I get is to buy everything seperate. I know there has to be a better way.
Do any or your protein drinks or chewable vits. in como cover your entire requirements? How do you all go about getting all your vit. & min. in?
Thanks so much for all your help.
I'm 3 weeks out and waiting for the hair to start falling. I don't have much to spare and want to do all that I can to keep it!
Ciao for now,
Kat

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Have you looked into our eStore? Go to Bariatric Advantage on the index column, and check out the Multi Forms. They have vitamins and minerals all together.

Thanks Doc,
I had looked at the bariatric advatage multi-form chew and don't see folate and phosphorus listed. Could those things be called something else or am I not reading it correctly? I'm ashamed to say that I don't know enough about all these things. I think I need to go to the library and do some homework.
Thanks,
Kat

Folate is folic acid, and that is listed. By phosphorus, do you mean phosphates (phosophoric acids)? There are a couple of vitamins tied with phosphates. Although phosphate has to be present for calcium absorption, it's needed only in a small amount, so what's included there may be sufficient. These products were developed to cater to the special needs of bypass patients, so what they have should do the job for most.

HEY kat...
i TAKE CHEWABLE CENTRUMS. I have since i began my journey. MY blood work comes out perfect each time. HAS your surgeon ran blood work on you yet as a post op? I would stick to what your surgeon requests till he reviews blood work ups for you. I know mine follows my blood work very closely. HE did recently increase me to 2 chewable centrums and added Vit B complex to see if it helps an issue i have of numbness.
I would maybe get your blood work done and reviewed by a professional and based on those findings decide with your doctor what you need added.
ON the hair note, nothing supplement wise really helps. BIOTIN will make the new growth come in faster and healthier but if your choosen to have this happen it will. It didnt start for me till between 3 and 4 months out and is still going strong. I took biotin well before my surgery, use nioxin shampoos and have kept my PROTEIN levels very high thru my journey so I am learning to just deal with it now. I know this has much more to do with ketosis mixed with the stress of the surgery as i had the same hair thinning when i tried ATKINS for weightloss when that was the big craze.
Well good look....
Well its too soon for you to really have ur bloods done my first was at 3 months out. I would honestly wait till that is done to make changes in supplements unless instructed by the surgeon!
hugs

I take two prenatals, two calcium citrates (broken in half), a vitamin B-12, a vitamin B-1, two Aciphex (for acid reflux) and that is pretty much it. That is what is okay by my doc....good luck. I consider it an ace of a day when I swallow everything and keep it down before bedtime...lol. Small pills are my fave and I space them out as "treats"...

Kat, I wasn't looking closely. Phosphate is included in the protein supplemnts, rather than the multiforms, so check them out.
P.S. I'm moving this thread to the Vitamins & Nutrition section, as it's more appropriate there.

Doc, are all of the vitamins and supplements we need to take after the surgery available in liquid or chewables?
