Default Anyone else see the GM: carnie wilson interview?

I saw this at my coffee shop this morning.. Poor gal hounded and criticized by the press over some re-gain..

I LOVE how she talked about the struggle with healing from in to out and how important that is AND the focus of how she is defined, mom, wife, etc and happy in her life.

I LOVE that she was honest and talked about how you CAN regain through snacking...all day and how it is a --commitment-- to stay at the low..a life CHANGE to stay there.

Thank you Carnie for this reality check for those early out and in the honeymoon phases and for those of us further out..

reminder of how this is NOT a temporary fix, we can "un-do" the work of the surgery and how it is a LIFE CHANGE forever to stay where we want to be.

Normal sized people...their life always includes daily exercise, watching what they eat, etc...and as the "I can make you thin guy" says: eating on purpose!

It was very encouraging to me..although I know a LOT will look at that and say it was discouraging to see...plus if you all remember she DID have PS too.

I find it a great breath of fresh air of reality about life after WLS..and it encouraged me to stick on my path of working on these re-gain of 20-25 lbs which I still want to get down, and it's that reminder that it's a slow process, not overnight! whew!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I read the recent interview of her in the most recent OK magazine....she did an addiction transfer to alcohol and talked about it openly on Oprah a few years ago...she's back up over 200 and wants to lose 50 to get pregnant again....

I knew we can regain the weight after WLS but It scares to death. I know this is only a tool but realizing that if I don't learn how to eat healthy and be more conscious of my food addictions I will regain terrifies me. I feel like a new person right now and I don't ever want to be who I was before the surgery. Now I am limited to what and how much I can eat but once my honeymoon period is over thats when the real challenge begins. God help me!

i didnt see it. i wish there was a link or something. what's GM? maybe i can google it. i know we regain. there is a whole lot of ownness on the individual. i truly believe those who were ill prepared in terms of the psych side (myself included) will fail eventually. what one considers a failure is on the indivudual. we have to realize the surgery doesnt fix everything.

I agree. It is a scary thing. One thing I have heard Doc say in another thread is that we don't feel the hunger like we did before surgery though. That has to make it a little easier. I think we just have to learn how to control our head hunger and not answer to it.

If im right she had Lap Band surgery. Im almost sure of it. Then she did have another child not long after. I have kinda followed her story since she first had it done. I know her and her sister are getting ready to tour again. Wilson Phillips was a big act during my later teen years so I always kinda related to her.

The world is so judgemental anyways. One of the worst is weight.

the article in OK said she had gastric..and yes, she had a child not too long after she lost the weight...but she had a problem drinking....and the Oprah interview had her husband on there talking about it too...she's back in the gym, and in OK, she mentioned that she loves tortillas with cheese...and popcorn....

She did have gastric....I saw the show of her surgery. She did not have a child until she kicked her alcohol habit. Her husband told her she needed to stop because she was the person he wanted to have a child with and so she got help with the alcohol and they had their first child. I am glad she is discussing this at least to help us realize that is up to us to work to keep the weight off. I do wish it would not give everyone else a negative about it tho. So many people just automatically assume it is not worth it cause they know someone that gained weight back.

agreed...but from the way she talked, she didn't have the "chang your life" mindset necessary to be successful after surgery.....my MIL asked me how long I would have to be on this diet....I told her FOREVER!!! She even told me tonite she would be glad when I got to goal and could start eating again....??!?! I told her I eat now...but I eat HEALTHY!!!
