| I thought the weight was gone forever I thought the weight was gone forever also. But forever doesn't exist. I had my surgery 12/26/01, at the time weighed 329lbs. I got down to 189. But at this point I'm back up to 287. I'm so devestated. I'm currently trying to get a revision to continue loosing. I did everything correctly, kept journals, followed diets correctly and worked up to 90 minutes on the eliptical. But here I am fighting for a revision. If you or anybody can share their experiences with me or have had similar problem I would greatly apprec. hearing from you. Brenda blfried2001@yahoo.com

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Sorry to hear of your regain, sometimes it is due to a faulty pouch.
However, one question. You did everything you were supposed to, so did you keep on doing everything forever? Because once you have lost your weight, doesn't mean you can go back to old foods, old eating patterns (use food to cope with stress etc). You must stick to the rules and the food choices forever--keep up with the healthy eating forever to to maintain.
Honestly speaking (as a physician) it is hard to imagine someone gain that much if that person stuck to a 1200-1400 kcal well balanced daily diet and continued to exercise regularly.
How much what are you eating now? Taking stock of that first may give you pointers in working out a solution while you get your pouch checked out if it is still capable of doing its job so long as you stick to it handling instructions you've been given from your orignal surgeon.
((((((HUGS)))))) May your journey go well.

Oh Brenda, do not be so hard on yourself. I am 9 years out from my original RNY and this past November I was blessed to have a revision to an Extended RNY. My surgeon's motto is "everyone deserves a second change", and I believe him. I kept my weight off for 5 years and through a number of circumstances (some my fault, but most not) I regained about 100 pounds back. Keep your head up and fight for the right to be healthy. It took me one year of fighting with my insurance company, but I finaly got approved. Sometimes for reasons known and unknown this surgery fails, we are not the ones that are always at fault. Do we play a part, yes, but the majority of revisions need to be done because there was a mechanical failure with our tool and it needs to be fixed. You can do this, and I am sure this group will help cheer you on each and every step of the way, I know i will.

I've not posted in one dang long time but caught this one..gotta say something!
It's really important to make sure and go in and have several things checked out when you have regaining to make sure it's not a 'failure' issue.
endoscopy to check the stoma opening, check for any staple line disruptions, small bowel series, etc...blood work out the wazoo too!
Plus as the doc said:
--you gotta look at somethings too. Did you start any thing like eating/drinking at same time? did carbs, sugars sneak back in?
Life sucks and you still gotta deal with it and when our "old" ways have been to stuff with food so we don't have to FEEL!!! and DEAL with life...it can sneak so softly back in on us without even realizing it has. Because in the beginning it starts out soooo small, one bite 2 many, then 2 then 3 eventually..we're overeating and pushing it through with drinking afterwards..
Therapy is a HUGE help long term
---Bree---may this year will be 6 yrs? post op for me...goodness I still have too look at my med bracelet to remember the date for sure!

Glad I found this one. I am scheduled for a malabsorbtion surgery on 3/29/10. This is going to be a revision. All of my GI series, have had two, show my pouch is "still in tack" from my original RNY back on 2/28/04. But I can eat ANYTHIG! Seriously!. My Doc can't believe it from the pics. I am going to have the intestine made shorter. My insurance, BCBS Feds, appoved very easily. I have gained 32 lbs this year. He is also going to take a look at my pouch while he is in there. And yes, I went back to emotional eating. And also fell into the cooking for family regular dinners. And eating them right along with the family. Not good. No exercise. And yes, something serious got in the way of my previous surgery. My husband was killed in an accident shortly after my RNY. So I took a backseat to my life. It has been a little over 5 yrs since that happened. And now I am going to do me!!! Something as heavy people we don't know how to do very well. Put down the baseball bat. I am embarrassed. And not even telling anyone it is a revision I am going in for. But I will have to start over again. And pay attention this time. Much love and support to you! Do it. You deserve it!
