Default Need a Girdle/Shaper/Bodywear?

OK Ladies. I am frustrated. I am driven. I am passionate. I am on a search/quest for a shapewear garment that we as obese women can wear... and later after we've lost all the excess weight, we can wear too because it will meet our specific needs of hanging skin! SOOoooo... I've searched the world over... thought I found true love (think Hee Haw)... and guess what? No true love after all. Just heartache and disappointment. i've spent hundreds of dollars on shapewear, girdles, blah blah blah, you know the drill.

Well I have a garment in my head. I've searched for hours on the internet, for weeks and months, but to no avail. Although, I do have some pretty great ideas to give to the makers of Spanx and Lipo In a Box. I did that; they didn't want to listen. But, makes me wonder, have those women ever been morbidly obese? Dun't think so. Yeah, that's what I think. Anyways...

Ladies, can you please do me a huge favor? Please list the things in a control garment that you look for... what you have found that you like... what you have found that you don't like... I have some "ears" right now of garment companies that I have been in communication with, and this is a time for our voices to be heard of our needs... It might be hard for some of you because you might be just going into surgery and thinking you'll never have need for a control garment again... for others, it might have been so long since you were morbidly obese that you can't remember... but please search back into your memories on wearing these garments, how they felt, what you liked, didn't like, what you needed but didn't get... etc
I have some great ideas in my mind, and I need to know whether these are all inclusive of the needs of my bypass family... Thanks! And if its too personal, please feel free to send them via personal message.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Melinda, this is a wonderful idea. I'll sticky it here for a while, and also copy this into hmm...where will it get best attention...Stupid Qs might be a good place, not Coffee talk
Also, why not hop over to WLS Channel, which is also hosted by the same CraigT here, and see if they can't help you get this on a roll--the more ladies you have behind you, the more it will have the power of persuasion to win those undergarment makers over, have them realise they have a great market out here.

Gals, start the brainstorming!!!

Doc, thanks so much for your support. I will do just what you have said... One man told me last week that if I were to market this just to bariatric patients and formerly morbidly obese, I didn't have much of a market. Oh little does he know!! Next he said that IF I were going to target obese women, well, Spanx has that market cornered and everyone seems to want a piece of the pie... and I asked him outright, "are you obese?" He said No, naturally. I asked him "Have you needed to lose 20 to 30 lbs?" He said, "NO, just maybe ten at the most." I answered, "then you WON'T understand."

These garments need to be lightweight, yet very strong to support us, moreso, our troubled areas including:
1. batwings under the arms
2. entire back area so we dont show back fat or loose saggy skin out the tops of the shapewear
3. under the arms/sides of breasts where it often overflows/spills out of a bra
4. Midsections of tummy, lower sections of tummy because of loose skin, and rolls/layers of fatty pockets before we lose our weight
5. Outer thighs for the broad hipped folks
6. Inner thighs, upper legs (MY trouble area! I hate my legs rubbing together, and I'm a size 4!)
7. Even around the buttocks area where people who sag a lot but cannot afford brazilian buttlifts , full body lifts, or belt lipectomies

Garment needs to contain areas of more compression than just that of a garment such as spanx/assets. But, we want to look and feel normal and don't want to wear those thick highly supported plastic surgery types of garments; plus, they are hot.

So are we on the right track ladies?

Well, I've got a couple of ideas.
The more obvious one is that I'd want a shaper that doesn't ride up at the butt. I also don't want it to ride up at the front, leaving the rolls hanging out at the bottom. In essence, the garment needs to be more substantially built for us big girls.
I had a shaper I liked ~ I think it was made by MiracleSuit ~ but it was high waisted and kept rolling over at the top, even though it wasn't supposed to do that. Since I'm too long-waisted to wear any of the one-piece shapers I've found comfortably, I've always wanted one that allows me to wear my own bra and has adjustable suspenders.

In the end, I just gave up and started wearing more flowing outfits with no waist or shape. They are artsy and comfy, but I'd sure like to stop this incessant jiggle! I fear a permanent injury if I have to hurry anywhere!

Oh I cannot wait. You go girl, looks like you are on to something. #3 is a huge issue for me also. Still need the support in the straps to old up the girls from all of the skin, more support on the sides but something soft and pretty.

Yesterday I had on an underwire with very thin straps. I had some PT and was in a strange stretching postition for several minutes. When I got up everything was out! Of course it isn't everyday that you are laying on top of a foam roll.

Ladies, I know what you mean about making sure the straps are heavy duty! I used to be a DD cup size but then had a reduction (prior to wls). Then I was a 42A! Talk about a huge change!! I hate it that my underarms have loose skin that gush out. And, I don't have any breasts, so its not breast tissue. It's just loose skin! And, it rolls up and over the bra straps on those body suits. Tank tops are better, but still you have that skin coming out over the edge. I don't know why they can't put a tshirt on those suckers... I want to scream, 'CAN'T YA JUST ADD A LITTLE MORE MATERIAL ON DOWN TO THE ARMS???!!!"

I'm hoping I can get someone to listen, really listen...

What a great idea! I would totally buy one designed as you have suggested Mel. Especially if it was all one piece and included the arms and thighs. I hate the 2 piece things. I have not found any that I am satisfied with. You go girl.

What you have described is just what I am looking for. Good luck on this. I think we all would buy one if we could find one just like that.
