Aloha all,
I've been ill with a viral infection for the last 3 - 4 days...consequently have lost more weight. I am now 114 lbs. about 15 lbs below my goal weight. I look frail and fragile. I have no no...appetite (how can you with a fever). I cannot post a new photo since the website doesn't accept my photos (I don't know how to do that). People look at me and perhaps are worried about my health condition. My father asks if I have anorexia , or have gone overboard with the weight loss. What can I do...since I don't and cannot eat more than 1/3 cup.

I am so sorry that you have been ill. I hope that you will feel better soon and can maybe increase you food intake some. Does it make you sick to eat over 1/3 cup? I can eat a cup now even a little more if it is like cottage cheese or something like that. Can you do protein shakes? That would be a good way to increase your protein. You really need to find a way to get more food. Maybe doc. will be on later and can help you. Take care of yourself. (((hugs)) dixie

| Are you staying hydrated? I think that's my first thought with the illness portion. Can you get some protein to put in water? If you are able to take in food, even in small amounts, you may have to just eat a little, wait a bit and eat a little more til you get in the nutrition, and calories, you need. Also, your vitamins are especially important once you can tolerate them (not sure if your illness is GI or respiratory). Hugs! Hope you're feeling better really soon ~ maybe talk to your dr or a nutritionist about getting your intake to your best level.

Since you are ill, first thing to make sure of is to keep hydrated. Not just water, but if you aren't feeling nauseous, then protein shakes and things.
About being able to eat only 1/3 cup. You don't have a stricture, do you?
You also need to *train* your pouch to accept more.Chew thoroughly, eat slowly. If you can eat only so much at each sitting, it might be a good idea to get snacks in--protein first, here, too--twice a day, if your surgeon/nut is game with the idea.
Hang in there, hope you feel better soon.

| sorry to hear that you have been so sick ~ i hope that you have been in touch with your doctor! goodness you must be a frail tiny flower. i noticed that next week will be your one year anniversary of your surgery, do you have a 1 year follow-up appointment with your surgeon? this is something that you need to have checked out as it sounds as though you might have a stricture. i am certainly able to eat more than 1/3 cup of food. you need nutrition/protein in order for your body to heal. get hold of your doctor sweetie!

I agree with the rest. You need to find out why you can only do 1/3 cup. At one year out you should be eating more.

i remember you posting about this before. did you ever contact your dr about your eating difficulties? if not, thats where you should begin. nevermind what you look like, its about how you feel and your health.

I had a similiar situation except that I could eat more and continued to lose weight. I had my surgery in 4/09 and depending on the type of food determines how much I can actually eat. For instance, I can eat a bowl of cereal (cup of dry cereal) with 1/2 cup of milk. I dont usually finish the milk. I can now eat a whole slice of pizza (without meat) but I usually dont eat the crust because its too dry.
Hang in there, and like the others said see you doctor. He or she is truly the person you need to speak with to determine the cause. And being a nurse practitioner, I will tell you if you had a viral infection and not appetite 5-15 possibly 20lbs weight loss is normal but you need to keep yourself hydrated or you can cause your eletrolytes to go out of whack causing further health issues.

like Doc said....push the liquids...that's about all I can tell ya..Being sick and being post op at any stage in the road SUCKS!!! (even at 7yrs out!) Protein powders are great for getting in protein and when you are WELL again...just start eating on a schedule again.
{{{hugs2u}}} get well soon hon!
