| Long term success 'secrets'.. I'm always struck by the seemingly high incidence of people who have any of the WLS's and yet are still ignorant of their own new digestion processes and anatomy or requirements in how/what to eat. So..that said here are some 'secrets' for long term success.. -------------- 1) Take advantage of all the pre op education your doc's office offers! 2) Go to many more than the 2-3 support meetings offered, those new posties and long termers can really help you have a realistic idea of what it's gonna be like post op. When you are a post op, keep going to give back and encourge new pre ops/posties! 3) Go to the nutritionist! Go more than one time, go until you have a good idea of what your doc's requirements are for eating afterwards and what works best. 4) Stick to the rules long term! 5) Please PLEASE! learn the anatomy of your new digestive system because not all docs, ER's, etcs are educated about us! 6) Remember this surgery is a TOOL only to get you to where you want, long term success is up to YOU in the end, not the doc's staff--->>YOU<<<--- 7) Protein first and most of all..always and forever 8) Remember that even when you become thin you are NOT a normal thin person! You have to continue to eat the high protein, do your supplements if you need them and drink water water every day. 9) Exercise should become a HUGE part of your life post op. Walk each day, get in the gym and do regular workouts, get a trainer to help you focus on YOUR result that you want for YOU. Basically, make physical activity part of your new life for the rest of your life! 10) Yes, at a certain time out nearly all will go up a few lbs some as much as 25-30 after they have bottomed out around the 2 yr point. The body does adjust some and you can eat more so the "rules" become even more important! 11) Therapy is a very very very important part of the process. It might mean a once in awhile check in to see how you are dealing with life and WLS or it might mean ongoing regular appts for years as you become long term WLS posties. --------------- Your success long term is in your hands and totally possible to have huge life changing events because of the WLS! It's worth it, totally worth it to have WLS. But the end result is between YOU and YOUR BODY, it is NOT the surgeon's staff's fault if you do not get the result you wanted because you didn't educate yourself pre and post op, it is not their fault if you did not walk each day or exercise at all and didn't reach goal, it is NOT your hubby or family's fault if you regain because of being pressured to 'eat more' because they got uncomfortable with your weight loss.. It is YOUR responsibility to educate yourself, to learn all you can about how to be successful post op for the rest of your life. In the end...remember... This is NOT a diet, it is a life changing surgery and it deserves respect in all it's aspects.

Thanks Bree, we all need to be reminded.
I'm at that point where I can eat more and I'm worried that I'm going to start gaining. But I'm sticking witht the rules - protein first, water in between meals, and it's working for me too.
