Exclamation EEK .. Blindness what could cause it?

I have not been around for a long time. I am still maintaining doing everything I need to do protein, vitamins, etc. My vitamin levels came back low especially my D. The doctor sent in an rx for 50,000 twice a week.

My Endo has put me on a gel thyroid as I am not absorbing my thyroid.

Today I came in from getting the mail opened it & had a panic attack upon reading something. Then all of the sudden I went blind for about a minute and half! As my sight came back I could only see hues of green. Now I can see fine.

I called my surgeon and my doctor. My PCP has me coming in at 3:30 this afternoon. My surgeon was in surgery and would be back this afternoon to give me a call.

Has anyone experienced this before? Or even heard of it?

I am freaking out. I am afraid to get into my car and drive. I have called my husband to come home early from work to take me down to the doctor.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

If you were being literal about the panic attack. that could be your reason. Temporary blindness is one of the symptoms of panic attacks.

In any event, your doctor should ease your mind. Please keep us posted, sweetie.

Yes, panic attacks can cause it. However, since you say your vitamin levels are low, VitA deficiency may be an underlying cause to it as well. You should have your eyes checked out by an ophthalmologist (not an optometrist or an optician) to be make sure that it was just due to the panic attack.

Listen to Doc Sanae...Please! This time it sounds like a "Panic Attack" but...If you're vitamin levels are low (especially A or B vitamins) then you very well can have problems.

Get your blood (serum) vitamin Labs every 6 months, until your levels (values) are where they should be! What Vitamins are you using? If you are using "Flintstones" or gummies they are crap..Pardon me.

Use Centrum silver (2 times a day) or Centrum Chewable 2 times a day. (or one of teh Bariatric Vites)...The Vitamin D that is prescribed is vitamin D2, NOT Dry D3, what is what we RNY folks need....You can get Vitamin D3 at ANY store (Walgreens, Walmart, Target, CVS, etc) ask for Dry Vitamin D3...Take one everyday in addition to your Multivitamin.

What are you doing for your B12 andB1??? Are you doing the injections or?? What Lab values are "low"?

For your calcium make sure it is Calcium Citrate! Also make sure you don;t take Iron within 2-3 hours of taking your calcium. Vites and minerals are NOT something to fool around with. It can cause PERMANENT nerve damage, blindness or psychiatric problems, or skeletal/bone problems.

We HAVE to be vigilant about taking our Vites and Bites and taking the RIGHT ones.

Good luck, and always make sure to educate yourself.
Warmly,

I have experienced some bad panic attacks in my life. I had been taking some daily meds, as well as some strong PRN meds before my surgery. Since the surgery, (with my doctor's permission) I have decreased my daily meds by half, and take my PRM medication once a day instead of three or four. Panic attacks are horrible, and if you saw something shocking ion the mail, that could trigger a bad one. I have had loss of vision with mine before. I do have to say...that when I don't get the vitamins or protein that I should be getting...I can have panic like symptoms...vision problems, sweats, shaking...ect. Definately talk to your doc about the instance. Get some blood work done...to make sure your levels are okay. Also drink lots of water. Dehydration cn also bring about some symptoms for me.
Sorry that happened to you today. It is a very scary feeling, but you did the right thing by not driving.
Hope all goes well for you. Let us know what your doctor said
Thanks for sharing
