| Nervous
I have not been here in awhile, I hope everyone is doing well.
I am currently on my last month of the insurance diet. (3 months) I am doing well. I have not really lost a bunch of weight. Anyways, I am nervous. I work in the media, things are shaky at work for everyone. I do not think I will loose my job but I could. I wanted to have my surgery in Jan. 2010, but will I have a job? I am thinking about just getting it done this year. ( I meet guidelines for approval. I am positive) I go to see my surgeon next week.
Two questions?
How long does it take for approval normally?
Do you think I could get a surgery date for this year? (opinion)
I am just so nervous, I might not have insurance much longer!!
Thanks everyone

My insurance took about 2 days from time of submission. BCBS MESSA (I called & forewarned them it was coming.) I was kind of in the same boat as you. At the time the school district I work in tried to take away our insurance (the one that covers GBS) for one that was more cost effective so I called the surgeon explained that the potential new insurance will not cover GBS & that I needed a surgery date ASAP. They got me in 3 weeks later. A lot depends on the protocol at your surgeon's office but I would definately call & ask for a date ASAP.

Depends on the insurance. Did you call them and ask once its submitted how long does it take for them to approve. That is the question to ask. That way you will know exactly yourself how long.
The work issue honey....... listen the cards are gonna fall where there supposed to no matter if you have this surgery or not. I know its hard not to think about it but you have to think about your own health first. That is the upmost importance.
If you dont get healthier than you are right now your not gonna be able to work one day. Think about that. Besides you people working in the media have to let therest of the world know what is going on. Thre are laws that guarentee your position in the company and they cannot let you go because of a illiness or surgery you have had as long as you have worked with them for a year. Its called FMLA. So breathe make the call to your insurance and find out how long they have to approve. I had and still have TRICARE and they had to repsond with a approval or denial within 72 hours. They responded within 18!

My insurance approved me in a matter of hours after getting the faxed paperwork, since they had been following my progress. It usually doesn't take over a week. I wish you much luck. And you should be able to get a date before the New Year. These doctor's mornings are all about surgery, and there are probably less people than you think getting the surgery by your specific surgeon at any given time.

My insurance has a whole different way of doing things, my PCP diagnosed me with co-morbidities before he would even send off a referral, but once the referral was sent (6 months after I started the process!) It was only a matter of days till I was accepted into a program. Then the clinical testing started, and I couldnt get a surgery date until I paid in full a weight management program, to the tune of 1450.00. As soon as that was paid, I got my date. Final approval will come the week prior to surgery, when my insurance verifys that I have attended my mandatory class, and successfully worked with the dietition. I have on both counts, and will have to work with the dietition for 10 months after surgery as well. From referral to surgery date was approx 3 months.
Lauri
Basically all insurance is different. Don't be afraid to call them and ask questions.

Hello everyone,
Thanks for your replies. I am so stressed out and I have no one to talk to about this process with but here. I sent an email to my union rep about the forecast for the rest of the year. He has not replied. I need to let my boss know if I am going to use my last week of vacation by Thursday. I am not sure because I have to use 2 weeks, I have sick days left too, of my own time before short term disability will kick in.
Stressed Out!!!
