Hello everyone,

I called my insurance company (Aetna) today to see if I had been approved yet. The insurance coordinator said I would know something by the end of the week. (which is today) When I talked to the customer rep on the phone she said it could take up to 30 days for an approval! 30 DAYS! Is this true?? How did 5 days turn into 30 days? How are some people getting a 24 hr turn around?

Also the insurance coordinator told me she sent it in Friday and the insurance company said they got it Wednesday put in the system Thursday. Did she lie to me?

Total rant, sorry LOL.

I wonder if they can tell I have called a total of 3 times already

Yes honey some have it done within 24 hours and evidently Aetna has up to 30 days to make a decision. That is always somthing people need to ask when inquiring about this surgery is to call the insurance company themselfs asking if they pay for it what the requirments are and how long do they have to approve it once all paper work is submitted. I would say yes on the number of times you have called. Lets put it this way if they do there job the way they are supposed to......it should have been documented. Dont get down about this. Some companys have up to 3 months to approve or deny.

Call & ask to speak to a supervisor or patient advocate. Ask for documentation of the approval process thus far. Ask for a supervisor or advocate to hand carry your application through. Sometimes that works with Aetna, depending on which policy you have. (I have BCBS MESSA as primary and Aetna as secondary.) Traditionally, Aetna is very difficult to work with so you have to keep on them.

I have put myself on a call free diet until Friday. :-) I need to be more patient. If I do not hear anything by Friday, I will call the surgeons office and Aetna.

LOL. yes they can see that you call. everytime you give them your info they pull up your "account" and document what theyve told you. iw ould ask for someone of authority though.

and yes they have UP TO 30 days but it usually comes in under 30 days. all this is done electronically so your dr might actually have an update as early as next week. hang in there.

Patience is always the hardest part! When it is all said and done and you are post-op you will reflect on this time and laugh (hopefully).

I know it is hard to wait. I was told that it could take from a month to six weeks for approval but it came is less that two weeks. Hang in there. It is so worth all the red tape you are going through now.
