Default When to cancel WLS add on?

I am a co-business owner and we do not offer insurance to our employees, so we just go a policy for just us the owners & family thru Anthem Blue Cross Blue Sheild. When I decided to do WLS I asked if it was covered and it was not but that I could add a rider called obesity (something or another) that covered WLS. This rider add on costs an extra $228.00 per month and when it was added I remember the insuance company said to leave it on for a while after surgery b/c if there were any problems they would not cover it if the rider is not on there. But when is it safe to cancel? 2 years, 5 years, 10 years out?

It was a year for me in August and I plan on keeping it at least another year, hopefully I will have lost to goal and at that point may need tummy tuck. Another thing is that I called and asked about tummy tucks and if its documented that I am having skin issues from surgery the rider will cover tummy tuck. I have allot more to loose to even consider that. I hate the thought of another surgery.

So when should a WLS rider be canceled?

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Well considering you wont have to have another WLS ...... I wouldnt keep it much longer. Anything that comes up following this now will be considered a medical conditon I would think and the regular insurance would pay. I would even think for the tummy tuck also. Considering you have documented the rashes etc that follow it. You might wanna ask your insurance company if that falls under the rider. I wouldnt think so but i would ask. I know what you mean buy another surgery. I need it done but Im totally chicken about it. Mine does cover the skin removal from the tummy but im just to dam chicken to persue it. I told my hubby if they could do it and put me in a coma for 3 months following it then I might think about it LOL. Yep im that chicken when it comes to my stomach area.

So I would make the call and find out. Agian anything that comes up now resulting from the surgery would go under normal medical instead of the rider or I would think it would.
