Default Aetna out of pocket expenses

I am curious about how much out of pocket expenses folks with Aetna had?

It is open enrollment time and I want to put away money in flex spending for my surgery. My deductible is going up to $400 but how much more should I add?

Even good guesses from anybody would be helpful ... any help?

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Consider what % of your bill your Aetna policy will pay. Get an estimate from the surgeon and the hospital. Consider follow-up visits. Factor all of those in and that should give you an idea of your out-of-pocket.

Mine depended what expences I had through out the year, and Aetna covered 90%. I still have a few bills rolling in but I ended up paying 900.00. My co workers paid anywhere from 1000-2000 . I think it depends on the plan. Aetna is good at helping you get a ball park figure when you call them

Good question. Remember that Flex plan will pay for OTC meds also. I always base it on what I can afford. The beauty of this is you can use it for others in your househould to for glasses dentist bills etc. I used mine mainly for precription copays. Another thing to consider is what is your Catastrophic Cap on your plan. Mine is 3,000 dollars a year. And unfortunally for the past 3 years I hit it just 4 months into the year. A hosptial stay always puts me over it fast. Any thing over that my insurance pays 100 percent of anything owed counting my precription medications. So yea make a call. I have TRICARE which is a military insurance coverage. Its called Standard. So they all differ and Aetna is a good insurance policy from what I have seen of it in past years. I used to deal with them while working for a physican and they are very good. SO yea make the call and see if they can help you decide.

Hello everyone,

I received a call from hospital today to set a time for my pre surgery testing. The also transfered my call to preregistration and the woman on the phone told me that billing would call my insurance company and I could find out my out pocket cost.

I did ask Aetna would much it would be and they acted like they had no clue. They said they would not know until they were billed.

I am happy to find out maybe Thursday or Friday. How much it would be and get an idea of how much I could afford to put away is super helpful.

Thanks everyone for your advice.

Everyday I am getting closer!
